If FPS | GPU | CPU | LAT has appeared in the top-right corner of your game, press Alt+R once. That usually hides NVIDIA’s performance overlay. If it keeps returning, disable the Statistics or Performance Monitoring view in NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience.

If FPS | GPU | CPU | LAT has suddenly appeared in the top-right corner of your game, press Alt+R once. That usually toggles off NVIDIA’s performance overlay.

If the display disappears, it was most likely the statistics overlay from the NVIDIA App or the older GeForce Experience. If it keeps returning, disable the performance or statistics overlay in the NVIDIA application’s in-game overlay settings.

What the four labels mean

Label Meaning
FPS Frames per second—the rate at which the game is rendering frames.
GPU Usually the graphics processor’s current utilization percentage, although the exact statistic depends on the selected overlay view.
CPU Usually processor utilization, again depending on the selected statistics configuration.
LAT A latency-related measurement. It is not automatically the same thing as your internet ping.

The wording and position are a strong match for NVIDIA’s performance overlay, but the text alone cannot identify the program with absolute certainty. AMD Software: Adrenalin and other game or hardware-monitoring utilities can display similar information.

How to remove the overlay with Alt+R

  1. Click inside the running game so it has keyboard focus.
  2. Press Alt+R once.
  3. Wait a moment to see whether the FPS, GPU, CPU, and LAT display disappears.

On NVIDIA systems, Alt+R is the visibility shortcut for the performance or statistics overlay. Pressing it again normally brings the display back.

If nothing happens, try the shortcut while you are in the game rather than on the desktop. The overlay may also be disabled, assigned to another shortcut, or controlled by an application that is not NVIDIA’s software.

Stop the NVIDIA overlay from appearing again

NVIDIA is moving users from the older GeForce Experience application to the newer NVIDIA App, so menu names can differ by application version. Look for the following general path:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the NVIDIA App. If you still use it, open GeForce Experience instead.
  2. Open Settings or the application’s in-game overlay settings.
  3. Find the option for the in-game overlay, Statistics, or Performance Monitoring.
  4. Turn off the statistics/performance display, or disable the in-game overlay entirely if you do not use its other features.

Some versions separate the master in-game overlay switch from the statistics view. In that case, disabling only the statistics or performance-monitoring view is the narrower fix; disabling the whole overlay also removes other NVIDIA overlay features such as recording or filters.

What “LAT” means—and what it does not mean

LAT means a latency measurement, but its precise definition depends on the NVIDIA statistics view, the game, and the data that the game exposes.

Possible latency terms include:

  • PC latency: a measurement associated with the PC and GPU portion of the pipeline.
  • Render latency: the time involved in rendering a frame.
  • Game latency: latency measured within the game’s processing path when supported.
  • End-to-end system latency: a broader measurement that can include more of the path from input to display, depending on the technology and hardware being used.

NVIDIA’s PC-latency measurement does not automatically represent mouse latency, monitor display latency, or network delay. Therefore, do not read the number as your ping unless the overlay explicitly identifies it as network latency.

If LAT shows N/A, that does not necessarily indicate a problem. The selected metric may not be available in the current game, application state, driver configuration, or overlay mode.

If Alt+R does not remove it

1. Identify which graphics software is installed

Check the Start menu, installed applications, or the system tray for:

  • NVIDIA App
  • GeForce Experience
  • AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  • A game launcher, recording tool, or hardware-monitoring utility with an on-screen display

Do not assume the display is malware simply because it appeared unexpectedly. An on-screen performance display is normally a software setting or hotkey feature.

2. Check NVIDIA’s overlay settings

If NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience is installed, open its overlay and look for Statistics, Performance, or Performance Monitoring. Turn off the enabled statistics view. Also check whether the application has a different shortcut configured for showing or hiding the overlay.

3. Check AMD Software: Adrenalin

On a computer using an AMD graphics card, the likely source is AMD Software: Adrenalin’s Metrics Overlay. Open AMD Software and inspect the metrics or overlay settings. AMD’s overlay lets users choose displayed metrics and placement, including a top-right position.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Disable the Metrics Overlay or remove the FPS, GPU, CPU, and latency metrics from its selected layout. AMD’s shortcut and menu labels are different from NVIDIA’s, so Alt+R is not a universal fix for every graphics card.

4. Check other on-screen-display tools

If neither NVIDIA nor AMD software is responsible, temporarily inspect any installed:

  • Game launcher overlay
  • Game recording or streaming application
  • Hardware-monitoring utility
  • Graphics-card tuning application
  • Gaming laptop control center

Open each utility’s overlay, OSD, monitoring, or hotkey settings and disable its in-game display. The exact source cannot be determined from the four labels alone.

Could this be NVIDIA FrameView?

NVIDIA FrameView is a separate performance-measurement application. It can provide an overlay containing average FPS, 1% low FPS, PC latency, GPU and CPU utilization, frequencies, and temperatures.

The symptom can therefore resemble FrameView, but the compact four-label display reading FPS | GPU | CPU | LAT is more strongly associated with NVIDIA’s App or GeForce Experience performance overlay. Do not install FrameView merely to remove the display. If it is already installed and running, check its overlay settings and exit or disable the overlay there.

Do you need NVIDIA Reflex or a special monitor?

No. You do not need NVIDIA Reflex, a G-SYNC monitor, a new graphics card, or a new CPU to identify or disable this overlay.

NVIDIA Reflex and compatible displays are relevant to more advanced latency analysis. Some compatible G-SYNC monitors support hardware-assisted Reflex Analyzer measurements, which can help users investigate end-to-end system latency. That is an optional measurement setup, not a requirement for removing the FPS/GPU/CPU/LAT display.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

  • Overlay disappeared after Alt+R: NVIDIA’s performance overlay was probably responsible.
  • Overlay reappears after restarting a game: disable Statistics or Performance Monitoring in NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience.
  • Alt+R does nothing: check whether NVIDIA software is installed, whether the game has focus, and whether the shortcut was changed.
  • You use AMD graphics: check AMD Software: Adrenalin’s Metrics Overlay instead.
  • LAT says N/A: the selected latency metric may not be supported or available; it is not, by itself, evidence of a fault.
  • No vendor overlay is installed: inspect recording, launcher, tuning, and hardware-monitoring applications.
  • You are worried it is malware: the appearance of FPS, GPU, CPU, and LAT values is more consistent with a performance OSD than malware, though you can still run your normal security scan if other symptoms are present.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get rid of the FPS, GPU, CPU, and LAT display?

Press Alt+R while the game has focus. This is the usual NVIDIA performance-overlay visibility shortcut. If it works, open NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience settings and disable Statistics or Performance Monitoring to prevent the overlay from returning.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does LAT mean ping?

LAT is a latency-related statistic. Depending on the selected view and game support, it may refer to PC, render, game, or another system-latency measurement. It is not automatically the same as network ping.

Which program is showing FPS, GPU, CPU, and LAT?

The display is most likely from NVIDIA App or the older GeForce Experience overlay, but AMD Software: Adrenalin and other monitoring utilities can show similar information.

Do I need an NVIDIA Reflex monitor to remove the overlay?

No. NVIDIA Reflex-compatible hardware is relevant to optional, more advanced latency analysis, but it is not needed to identify or turn off the overlay.

The Bottom Line

Press Alt+R first. If the display disappears, disable the NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience statistics/performance overlay so it does not return. “LAT” is a latency statistic, not necessarily your internet ping, and no new hardware is needed to fix this software overlay.
