The clearest route is to the Underground Lake in Area 8, behind the waterfall.
How to unlock Seeking the Goldenfish
Complete Kanya’s earlier fishing mission, Fishing: Life, in Microcosm, and progress the story. Then check for the new quest with Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp. Guides describe the story prerequisite differently, so the earlier mission and checking back with Kanya are the practical steps rather than relying on one chapter number.

Where to catch a Goldenfish
Recommended route: Scarlet Forest Area 8
- Travel to Area 8 in the Scarlet Forest and head to the waterfall at its southern end.
- Go behind the waterfall and follow the cave path to the Underground Lake.
- Fish in the lake, a dark, enclosed spot described as favorable for Goldenfish.
This is the most clearly described location route. Other reported spots include Scarlet Forest Areas 2, 6, 12 and 16, and Windward Plains Area 14. A Goldenfish is not guaranteed to appear on every visit; if the lake is empty, try another listed location or leave the map and return to refresh endemic life. PowerPyx’s Goldenfish location guide notes that the fish may not spawn on every visit.
How to catch the Goldenfish for the quest
- Equip the Fishing Rod and select the Golden Bughead lure Kanya provided.
- Fish at the Underground Lake and hook a Goldenfish using the fishing method.
- Return to Kanya at the Scarlet Forest Base Camp and report the completed mission.
Do not use the Capture Net for this objective: PowerPyx reports that netting a Goldenfish does not count as catching it for the quest. The Fishing Rod and supplied lure are the required approach.

Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. Seeking the Goldenfish rewards
Completing the mission gives five Honey, three Whetfish Fins and 50 Guild Points. It also clears the way for Kanya’s later Fishing for Flavor mission.
