Sekiro: No Defeat, the anime adaptation of FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, is scheduled to begin its eight-episode TV run in January 2027. Crunchyroll has announced it as the international streaming destination, excluding Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus; an exact global premiere date has not been announced in the cited sources. A Japanese theatrical edit opened in September 2026, before the expanded series.
When does the Sekiro anime come out?
The TV series is scheduled to begin in January 2027. Qzil.la’s production notice, dated September 25, 2026, describes an eight-episode series that follows the theatrical story with additional episodes and cuts. The announcement gives a month, not an exact premiere day.

Where can you watch Sekiro: No Defeat?
Crunchyroll announced international streaming, with Japan, China, Korea, Russia and Belarus excluded. The announcement does not establish an exact worldwide streaming date, and it does not confirm that the Japanese theatrical version will screen internationally.
How the theatrical version differs from the TV series
The Japanese theatrical version began a three-week run on September 4, 2026, with additional screenings from October 2, according to Qzil.la. It is an edited version that preceded the expanded eight-episode TV series. These dates and screenings refer to Japan, not a worldwide cinema release.

What the debut trailer and first look reveal
The first promotional material accompanied the anime’s 2025 announcement. Crunchyroll’s June 2026 coverage instead featured a theatrical trailer tied to the Japanese cinema run; it was not the debut trailer. The announcements identify the adaptation and its central characters, but do not establish further episode-specific plot details.
Story and cast
The official synopsis centers on Wolf, a shinobi tasked with protecting Kuro, a boy who carries the Dragon’s Heritage, amid the conflict in Ashina. The adaptation is based on FromSoftware’s Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
The announced returning game voice cast includes:
- Daisuke Namikawa as Wolf
- Miyuki Satou as Kuro
- Kenjiro Tsuda as Genichiro Ashina
Who is making the anime?
Kenichi Kutsuna is the director, Takuya Satou handles series composition, and Takahiro Kishida is the character designer. Qzil.la is the animation studio, with ARCH credited for production.
