Collector Darius Khan says Sega used UK police to recover development kits and prototype Nintendo cartridges he bought after an office clearance. Reporting describes a police raid and seized items, but does not establish Sega’s role, who owned each item, or whether the disposal was authorized. The latest case-specific account cited here, published by PC Gamer on 2 March 2026, said Khan had not been charged at that time and that the seized material’s fate was unknown.
What reportedly happened
According to PC Gamer’s 2 March 2026 report, Khan bought a mixed lot of hardware from an e-waste subcontractor after Sega moved its UK head office from Brentford to Chiswick. The reported purchase price was approximately £10,000; that is a reported transaction amount, not an independent valuation.

The lot reportedly contained development kits, controllers, signed game copies and prototype cartridges. PC Gamer said Sega had hired Waste To Wonder to dispose of hardware left behind, and that Waste To Wonder used a subcontractor. The report does not resolve the authorization or ownership chain for each item in the lot.
What the police reportedly seized
PC Gamer reported that City of London police raided Khan’s home in July 2025 and arrested him on suspicion of money laundering. Officers reportedly seized development kits and prototype cartridges, while leaving other items, including controllers and cables. The report attributed to Khan the claim that officers asked him to sign a form relinquishing ownership; that detail is his account, not an independently established finding.

What is known about Sega’s alleged role
The claim that Sega used police to reclaim the items is Khan’s interpretation of events, not a proven finding in the reporting. PC Gamer said Khan listed some items for sale online and was contacted by someone using the name “Paul,” whom the article described as a private investigator working for Fusion 85. It did not confirm the agency’s client. That contact alone does not establish who initiated the police investigation or why officers acted.
Notebookcheck’s 9 September 2025 account summarized a Time Extension report and described the seller’s belief that Sega involved authorities. It also noted Nintendo-system prototypes and development kits among the reported items. A separate Notebookcheck follow-up about the Video Game Preservation Museum fundraiser repeated claims connected with the raid; it did not independently settle ownership, legality or Sega’s alleged role.

What remains unresolved
- Ownership: The reporting does not establish who owned each item when it was cleared or sold.
- Disposal authority: The exact instructions and authorization covering the individual items are not resolved.
- Legal outcome: PC Gamer said Khan had not been charged as of 2 March 2026. That report does not establish his status after that date.
- Seized items: The March 2026 report said their fate was unknown. It does not establish their present location or disposition.
Accordingly, the available accounts support describing this as a disputed recovery involving a reported police raid and seized game-development material—not as proof that Sega directed an unlawful seizure or that the items were definitively discarded property.
