Hints for Wordle #1170
- The answer describes something soft.
- It has more consonants than vowels.
- It can describe overripe produce that is soft, squishy, and wet, or something overly sentimental.
- There are no repeated letters.
Forbes offered “Soft” as its broad hint and noted the consonant-to-vowel balance. PC Gamer provided the more descriptive clues. Forbes’ September 1 Wordle guide and PC Gamer’s puzzle guide both identify the dated puzzle.

How to use the clues to solve it
Wordle gives you six attempts to enter a five-letter word. Gray tiles rule out letters, yellow tiles show letters that are in the answer but in the wrong position, and green tiles mark letters in the correct position. Keep track of eliminated letters as you narrow the possibilities.

For this puzzle, the hints narrow the answer to a word about softness, with three consonants and two vowels. The no-double-letter clue eliminates repeated-letter candidates for this answer, though repeated letters remain possible in Wordle puzzles generally.
Forbes contributor Erik Kain reported trying MINTY, then SCOUR, which left two candidates in his account before he arrived at MUSHY. That is his reported sequence, not a required or universally reliable solving method.

A practical approach for future Wordle puzzles
- Start with a word that tests several common vowels and consonants.
- Use your next guess to check useful untested letters, while avoiding letters already ruled out.
- Compare the remaining possible words against every green and yellow position before committing to a guess.
- Remember that a repeated letter can still be part of the answer, even when earlier guesses have revealed that letter.
A five-letter word-list book can be an optional practice aid for building familiarity with possible guesses; it is not needed to find this archived answer.
