Shadow Fight 4: Arena is a team fighter: choose three heroes with upgradeable abilities and talents, then try to counter the opposing team’s approach. This guide covers the twelve fighters for whom the available official descriptions provide specific tactical advice. It explains each fighter’s general plan, but not exact attack inputs, frame data, damage values, or a definitive ranking.
How fights and teams work
Each team contains three fighters. You can play online PvP or against bots offline; the Google Play listing says online PvP requires a stable internet connection. Hero talents add abilities, and Nekki’s help center says new talents are unlocked with hero shards after you unlock a hero. Shadow energy fills as you deal and receive damage, with talents also affecting how quickly it fills.
That makes team selection a matter of more than picking three high-damage characters. Consider how each hero creates an opening, the distance or resource they need, and whether the team has a way to disrupt an opponent who relies on shadow energy. The character advice below describes broad identities from Nekki’s official descriptions; it is not a balance ranking or a guarantee that a particular tactic will work in every matchup.
Characters, attacks, and tactical plans
| Character | How the character creates pressure | Preferred range or resource | What to watch for when facing them |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ling | Plays patiently, waits for an opening, then punishes with his katana; his official description also names his flask. | Measured, defensive play that turns an opponent’s opening into a katana attack. | Do not rush into his preferred counterattack. Make an opening carefully rather than assuming he will initiate. |
| Marcus | Uses a heavy sword for high damage; Through the Glitch makes attacks faster and less predictable. | Damage and timing that can become harder to read with Through the Glitch. | Respect the heavy sword’s threat and avoid relying on a single predictable response to his attacks. |
| Azuma | Can neutralize shadow energy, and a successful hit can knock an opponent out of shadow form. | Anti-shadow utility; his value rises against opponents depending on shadow form. | Be cautious about relying on shadow form while Azuma is able to connect. |
| Ironclad | Uses resilience and shadow abilities to get into close combat; Nekki describes him as lacking a ranged attack. | Close range. His shadow abilities can help him close distance. | Use distance while it is available; avoid letting him establish the close-range fight he wants. |
| Shang | Builds toward shadow form and uses successful shadow-ability combos to overwhelm the opponent. | Shadow energy and successful shadow-ability sequences. | Disrupt his route to shadow form where possible and avoid letting a successful sequence snowball. |
| Fireguard | Uses shadow techniques and has a self-destruct effect after taking fatal damage. | Shadow energy regenerates automatically, supporting repeated use of shadow techniques. | Account for the self-destruct effect rather than treating fatal damage as an automatically safe moment. |
| Kate | Can drain the opponent’s shadow energy; Nekki recommends aggression against shadow-energy-dependent fighters. | Anti-shadow utility, especially against opponents whose plan depends on shadow energy. | Do not assume shadow energy will remain available while Kate is applying pressure. |
| Yukka and Shade | Yukka can command Shade to attack. Guillotine deals more damage as the opponent’s Wounds increase. | Shade’s commanded attacks and the Wounds condition for Guillotine. | Keep the Wounds interaction in mind: Guillotine’s damage increases as Wounds accumulate. |
| Kibo | Can apply pressure with accurate attacks, but misses cost shadow energy. | Accuracy and careful distance management. | Make Kibo commit from a distance where a miss is possible; missed attacks have a resource cost. |
| Emperor | Accumulates shadow energy, transforms into the Shadow Beast, then attacks with increased damage. | Shadow energy and the Shadow Beast transformation. | Track his path to transformation and avoid giving him an unchallenged chance to exploit the increased damage. |
| Jack Bulwark | Shadow Fortress can block attacks during an opponent’s shadow form; Fractures persist between rounds. | Defensive utility against shadow-form attacks, plus Fractures that carry across rounds. | Do not assume Fractures disappear at the next round, and account for Shadow Fortress when attacking during shadow form. |
| Jet | Builds Cyclone charges early, then uses attacks that can break blocks. | Cyclone charges; the recommended plan is cautious early play followed by block-breaking pressure. | Be alert to the shift from charge-building to attacks that can break a block. |
These descriptions come from Nekki’s official hero pages. Pocket Gamer’s guide, updated 5 October 2026 for version 1.9.85, provides a broader comparison of character abilities and suggested playstyles, but its assessments are editorial advice rather than official balance rankings. Because balance can change, treat strategic labels as starting points, not fixed matchup rules.

How to block attacks
Nekki’s help center says to stop moving and avoid pressing buttons for a few seconds; the character blocks automatically. This is a general instruction, not a promise that standing still is the right answer to every attack or situation.
How to throw an opponent
Move close, then press attack together with movement toward the opponent to throw. The help-center instruction establishes the basic input, but does not specify a universal range or timing window.

How to counter repeated attacks
The help center recommends blocking—by doing nothing or walking—and then answering with a quick attack. Use this as a general response to repeated attacks, not as a guaranteed counter to every move. A hero’s range, available resources, and the situation can change what response is practical.

The Google Play listing, displayed as updated 6 October 2026, lists Android and Windows availability. Nekki’s controller support page says the game supports DualShock and Xbox controllers, along with gamepads based on them. It also warns that device-specific settings or installed software can interfere, so check compatibility with your own platform and device before choosing a controller. A controller is optional; the cited support information does not make one a requirement.
