What the first trailer confirms about Shadow
Paramount Pictures International published the official trailer on August 27, 2024. It brings Shadow into the film as a formidable new foe, voiced in the original version by Keanu Reeves. Paramount’s official film page describes his powers as unlike anything Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails have encountered and says the team must form an unexpected alliance to stop him and save the planet.

Is the move officially called Chaos Control?
Paramount’s written synopsis does not use the name “Chaos Control.” That means the trailer’s official text establishes Shadow’s unusual powers, but does not confirm that a particular action is named Chaos Control. If the name is not spoken or shown in the footage, calling the moment Chaos Control is an interpretation of the visual, not an official identification.
This distinction matters because a dramatic display of power alone does not establish the film’s rules for the ability—such as what triggers it or whether it depends on an Emerald. Informal fan discussion raises those questions, but it is speculation rather than confirmation about the scene or the movie.

Where the trailer fits in the film
Paramount lists Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as a 2024 action/adventure/family film, rated PG, with a 110-minute running time. Its synopsis centers on Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails facing Shadow and seeking an unexpected alliance to protect the planet. Shadow is voiced by Keanu Reeves in the original version; Ben Schwartz and Idris Elba are also listed as the voices of Sonic and Knuckles, respectively.
Where to watch
Paramount announced on February 17, 2025, that the film would begin streaming on Paramount+ on February 18 in the United States and Canada. That announcement is a historical, territory-specific release notice; it does not establish the film’s current availability in those countries or in other markets. SEGA’s January 2025 film announcement also references Shadow Generations. It is a related Shadow-focused game mention, not evidence that the game and film tell the same story.
