The Shapeshifter’s Boon Ring grants its wearer a +1d4 bonus to ability checks while they are shapeshifted or disguised. Find it on the Strange Ox in Act 1 or Act 2, or follow the Act 3 Strange Ox quest and loot route. Equip it before the transformation: applying the ring’s condition is tied to transforming, and putting it on afterward does not activate the effect.
What the ring does
The Shapeshifter’s Boon Ring is an uncommon ring in Baldur’s Gate 3. Its bonus applies to ability checks while the wearer is shapeshifting or disguised; it is not a general bonus to attacks or saving throws. Where to find it
The Strange Ox is the acquisition lead in both Acts 1 and 2. In Act 3, the item reference lists the ring as a reward for Help the Devilish Ox or as loot from the Strange Ox in Rivington. Which route is available depends on your choices and interactions with the Ox; these are not all guaranteed options in every save. BG3 Wiki item reference.
Act 1: Emerald Grove
The Strange Ox carries the ring in the Emerald Grove. How you obtain it depends on how you handle the Ox and your choices in the area.

Act 2: Last Light Inn
The Strange Ox also carries the ring at Last Light Inn. If you did not obtain it earlier, this is another listed opportunity, subject to your route and interactions.
Act 3: Rivington
The Act 3 entry lists two possibilities: a reward from Help the Devilish Ox or loot from the Strange Ox in Rivington. The item reference does not establish that both remain available regardless of earlier decisions.

How to activate the bonus
- Equip the ring before using the transformation or disguise that should trigger its effect.
- Transform or disguise while wearing it. The ring’s condition is applied during transformation and lasts until a Long Rest.
- Use ability checks while the condition is active to benefit from the +1d4 bonus.
Equipping the ring after transforming does not apply the condition. The interaction notes also report that the condition can sometimes persist after the ring is unequipped, but that should be treated as a reported bug rather than reliable behavior across game versions. BG3 Wiki item reference.
Which transformations and disguises work?
Starry Form
The item reference lists a Circle of Stars Druid’s Starry Form as compatible with the ring’s effect. It also reports that equipping another ring with a passive while in Starry Form may remove the condition; this is a reported interaction, not a guaranteed outcome across versions. Symbiotic Entity
A Circle of Spores Druid’s Symbiotic Entity is listed as incompatible. Do not assume every ability described as a transformation will trigger the ring. BG3 Wiki item reference.
Seeming
The notes say a character transformed by another party member’s Seeming spell does not receive the effect as described. The targeted character can use Adjust Seeming and choose a different appearance to gain it. BG3 Wiki item reference.

Is it worth using a ring slot?
The ring is most relevant to a character who frequently shapeshifts or uses a supported disguise and expects to make ability checks while the condition is active. Its value is less certain if the character rarely transforms, relies on an incompatible form, or would benefit more from another ring. The listed bonus is limited to ability checks, so weigh that situational benefit against the ring-slot opportunity cost.
Is there a physical Shapeshifter’s Boon Ring?
The documented ring is an in-game item; the item reference does not establish a physical jewelry product. If you are looking to buy the game itself, Larian’s official Deluxe Edition page says PS5 and Xbox editions include playable physical discs, while the PC disc contains a downloader app and requires a download: Larian Deluxe Edition. That is a format distinction for the game, not an offer for a physical copy of the ring.
