Choose Standard if you want only the base game. Choose Digital Deluxe if you also want the Starter Pack, SEGA Villains Stage, digital art book and soundtrack. The game is not entirely digital: limited-run physical copies were produced for Switch, PS5 and Xbox, while SEGA says there is no physical version for PS4, Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, or Steam. Switch 2 received a separate Digital Deluxe release on September 24, 2026, with 1080p handheld presentation and one-way save-data migration from Switch.
Physical stock is limited and the listed prices can change on resale markets. Check the exact platform, edition contents and region before paying a premium.

The short buying answer
- Best for a straightforward purchase: Standard Edition on your preferred platform. It contains the complete base game.
- Best for extra digital content: Digital Deluxe Edition. It adds the Starter Pack, SEGA Villains Stage, Digital Art Book and Soundtrack.
- Best for a physical PS5, Switch or Xbox copy: Look for the limited-run Standard, Classic or Collector’s editions. These are separate physical products rather than ordinary mass-market releases, and availability is volatile.
- Best for collectors: The Collector’s Edition includes a statue, SteelBook, hardcover artbook, soundtrack CD and other memorabilia, but its listed $199.99 price and sold-out/in-production status make it a scarcity purchase rather than a normal game purchase.
- Best for Switch owners considering Switch 2: Buy the Switch 2 Digital Deluxe version if you want the newer handheld presentation, but move your save from Switch to Switch 2 only after deciding to stay on the newer system. Nintendo says Switch 2 save data cannot move back to Switch.
What Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is a 2D action platformer starring Joe Musashi. SEGA describes it as an all-new entry created by Lizardcube, the team behind Streets of Rage 4. The game combines hand-drawn visuals with combo-focused combat, Ninjutsu, Ninpo and Amulets. Its campaign spans more than a dozen stages, including military bases and desert environments.

The original release arrived on August 29, 2025 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Steam. A separate Switch 2 version launched on September 24, 2026. That release date matters when comparing listings: a Switch 2 product is not simply the same store listing as the original Switch edition.

The table separates the publisher’s digital editions from limited-run physical products. A physical listing can bundle downloadable extras that are also associated with Deluxe content, so compare the contents of the exact product page rather than assuming every “Standard” label has identical bonuses.
Standard Edition: what is included
The Standard Edition is the base game with no separately listed Deluxe additions. It is the cleanest choice when your priority is playing Joe Musashi’s campaign rather than collecting cosmetic items or digital media.
SEGA advertised two pre-order bonuses for the Standard Edition: the Original Arcade Outfit and Fortune Hunter Amulet. Those were described as pre-order incentives, not permanent contents guaranteed with every later purchase. If a current store listing does not show either item, do not assume it will be added after checkout.

- Players who want the campaign and core combat systems without extra downloadable content.
- Buyers who want to minimize the initial price difference between editions.
- Anyone purchasing a used or resale copy who can verify that the included code-based bonuses, if any, have not already been redeemed.
Digital Deluxe Edition: every extra explained
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the base game and the Digital Deluxe Upgrade. Its listed contents are:

- Starter Pack: Ghost Outfit, Medic Lite Amulet and in-game currency.
- SEGA Villains Stage: a crossover stage featuring Goro Majima, Dr. Eggman and Death Adder.
- Digital Art Book and Soundtrack: downloadable art and music material.
SEGA advertised up to 72 hours of early access for Deluxe pre-orders. The offer excluded Nintendo Switch, so Switch buyers should not treat the early-access wording as universal across platforms. Early access was tied to the pre-order promotion; it is not a standing feature that every later Deluxe purchase necessarily receives.
When the Deluxe premium makes sense
Deluxe is most defensible when you already know you want the crossover stage or the digital art and music, because purchasing an upgrade later can be less convenient than buying the bundle initially. The Starter Pack is a collection of cosmetic, utility and currency items rather than a separate campaign. If you only want the core platforming and combat, Standard avoids paying for those additions.
Switch 2 Digital Deluxe: what changes
Nintendo lists the Switch 2 Digital Deluxe Edition as a digital product released on September 24, 2026. Its core bundle mirrors the other Deluxe package: the base game, Starter Pack, SEGA Villains Stage and Digital Art Book & Soundtrack. Nintendo also lists 1080p presentation in handheld mode.

Nintendo says save data can move from the original Switch version to Switch 2. The direction is not reversible: Switch 2 save data cannot carry back to Switch. Treat the transfer as a one-way platform decision. Finish any sessions you intend to complete on the original console, back up or transfer according to Nintendo’s system tools, and do not delete the original data until the Switch 2 copy has been checked.

What the Switch 2 version does not imply
The Switch 2 launch does not turn the original Switch product into a physical cartridge release, nor does it guarantee that every original-Switch promotion applies to the newer product. Confirm that the store page says Switch 2 and that the Deluxe contents listed at checkout match what you want.
Is Shinobi: Art of Vengeance digital only?
No. The game has digital releases on all launch platforms, but physical availability is divided by platform and by publisher. SEGA’s official product information states: “No physical version available for PlayStation®4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam.” That means buyers on those systems should plan around a digital purchase unless they are dealing with a separately identified product that does not match SEGA’s standard physical-release statement.
Limited Run Games separately supplied region-free physical Standard, Classic and Collector’s editions for Switch, PS5 and Xbox. Those limited-run products explain why a physical PS5, Switch or Xbox copy can exist even though ordinary retail distribution is narrow. They should not be used to infer that a regular physical PS4 or Steam edition exists.
Physical availability by platform
| Platform | Physical situation | What to verify before buying |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 4 | SEGA says no physical version is available | Buy the digital version; be wary of listings that describe a different platform or a code-only product as a PS4 disc |
| PlayStation 5 | Limited-run physical Standard, Classic and Collector’s editions were supplied | Check whether the listing is complete, sealed or used, and whether downloadable bonuses are included or redeemed |
| Nintendo Switch | Limited-run physical editions were supplied; digital editions are also available | Confirm that the cartridge is for the original Switch and review any bundled DLC codes |
| Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S | SEGA says no standard physical version is available; Limited Run Games listed region-free Xbox physical editions | Confirm the exact Xbox compatibility and whether the listing is the limited-run product rather than a claimed mass-market release |
| Steam | SEGA says no physical version is available | Look for a legitimate digital Steam purchase; a Collector’s PC edition uses a digital Steam code |
| Switch 2 | Nintendo lists a digital Switch 2 Digital Deluxe Edition | Confirm the Switch 2 store listing and remember that save migration is one-way from Switch to Switch 2 |
Limited Run physical editions
Limited-run Standard Edition
The listed Standard physical edition cost $39.99 and was marked sold out. Its contents went beyond a bare cartridge or disc: the listing included the game, Ghost Outfit, SEGA Villains Stage DLC, Medic Lite Amulet, Digital Art Book and Soundtrack. Because several of those items are delivered digitally, inspect the condition of included codes when considering a used copy.

Classic Edition
A Classic Edition was part of the limited-run physical range for Switch, PS5 and Xbox. The supplied product information does not specify its contents or a price, so buyers should rely on the exact listing and photographs for the package components rather than assuming it matches either the Standard or Collector’s bundle.
Collector’s Edition
The Collector’s Edition was listed at $199.99 and marked sold out/in production. It includes:
- The game with DLC.
- Deluxe Clamshell Case.
- Soundtrack CD.
- Hardcover artbook.
- SteelBook.
- 8-inch Joe Musashi statue.
- Individually numbered Shikishi art board.
- A new SEGA Visions magazine.
The PC version of the Collector’s Edition includes a digital Steam code instead of a physical PC disc. That is a code-based PC purchase packaged with collector merchandise, not a physical Steam disc.

How to choose the right version
- Start with the platform. Decide whether you will play on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, Switch 2 or Steam. This immediately narrows the physical options.
- Decide whether you need a disc or cartridge. If ownership, resale or display matters, search the limited-run products for Switch, PS5 or Xbox. If convenience matters more, the digital Standard or Deluxe edition avoids scarce-stock pricing.
- Choose the content tier. Select Standard for the base game. Select Deluxe for the Starter Pack, crossover stage, digital art book and soundtrack.
- Check promotional wording. Pre-order bonuses and early access were promotional offers. Verify that the current store page still promises them, and remember that SEGA’s up-to-72-hour early-access offer excluded Nintendo Switch.
- For Switch, choose the console generation deliberately. The Switch 2 Digital Deluxe product has 1080p handheld presentation, and Nintendo permits migration from Switch to Switch 2 but not back again.
- For a physical resale purchase, inspect codes and completeness. A used copy can still contain the cartridge or disc while its Ghost Outfit, Medic Lite Amulet, crossover-stage or soundtrack codes have already been redeemed.
- Compare the total cost, not only the label. A sold-out limited-run item may cost substantially more on resale than its original listing, while a digital Deluxe purchase may provide the same downloadable extras without collector packaging.
Buying scenarios
“I only want to play the game.”
Buy the Standard digital edition on your platform. It supplies the base campaign and avoids paying for the Starter Pack, crossover stage and digital media. If you prefer physical ownership and can find a limited-run Standard edition at a reasonable price, verify the platform and condition first.

“I want every digital extra.”
Buy Digital Deluxe, or the Switch 2 Digital Deluxe product if you are playing on Switch 2. Check the exact platform listing because the bundle names are similar, while the Switch 2 product is a separate release.
“I need a physical PS5 copy.”
Search for the limited-run PS5 editions. The ordinary publisher information does not describe a broad retail physical program, so confirm that the seller is offering the limited-run product, not a digital code in a case or a mislabeled PS4 listing.
“I need a physical Switch copy.”
A limited-run Switch Standard, Classic or Collector’s edition is the relevant route. Decide whether you want a cartridge primarily for play or a complete package for collecting. For a used copy, ask whether DLC and cosmetic codes remain unused.
“I play on Xbox.”
SEGA’s product information says no physical Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S version is available, while Limited Run Games listed region-free Xbox physical editions. Treat those as distinct situations and verify the exact Xbox model supported by the listing before buying.
“I want the Collector’s Edition.”
Expect a collector-market purchase rather than a routine retail transaction. The listed $199.99 package contains substantial physical merchandise, but the product was marked sold out/in production. Confirm authenticity, seal condition, included numbered art board and code status before paying a resale premium.
Price and value considerations
SEGA’s Japanese announcement listed Standard at ¥3,000 before tax and ¥3,300 tax-included, and Digital Deluxe at ¥4,000 before tax and ¥4,400 tax-included. Those are Japanese announcement prices from 2025, not a universal 2026 price for every country, storefront or currency.
Limited Run Games listed its physical Standard Edition at $39.99 and Collector’s Edition at $199.99. The Standard listing was sold out, while the Collector’s listing was sold out/in production. Limited-run and resale prices can move independently of the original list price, so treat those figures as reference points for the listed products, not guaranteed current offers.

Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming “physical” means every platform has a disc or cartridge. PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Steam are specifically excluded by SEGA’s physical-release statement.
- Confusing original Switch with Switch 2. The Switch 2 Digital Deluxe version has its own release date and listing, and save data cannot move back to the original Switch after migration.
- Paying for Deluxe twice. A physical limited-run package may already include the SEGA Villains Stage, Ghost Outfit, Medic Lite Amulet, art book and soundtrack. Compare its contents before buying a separate digital upgrade.
- Treating pre-order bonuses as permanent. The Original Arcade Outfit, Fortune Hunter Amulet and early-access offer were advertised as pre-order incentives. They may not accompany a later purchase.
- Ignoring region and platform details. “Region-free” describes the limited-run physical listing, but you still need the correct console version and a compatible account for downloadable content.
- Buying a sealed collector package without checking the PC format. The PC Collector’s Edition uses a digital Steam code, not a physical PC disc.
- Assuming a sold-out page means no copies exist anywhere. It means the listed stock was marked sold out; resale availability and prices are separate and can change quickly.
Buyer’s checklist
- Confirm the console or PC platform and the exact generation.
- Choose Standard or Digital Deluxe based on the listed extras, not the cover art.
- For Switch 2, verify that the product is the Switch 2 Digital Deluxe Edition.
- Read whether a physical listing is Standard, Classic or Collector’s.
- Check whether DLC, cosmetic items, art book and soundtrack codes are included and unused.
- For a Collector’s Edition, verify the statue, SteelBook, hardcover artbook, soundtrack CD, numbered art board, magazine and clamshell case.
- Compare the seller’s current price with the original listed price and account for scarcity.
- Keep the original Switch save until the Switch 2 transfer has been verified, since Nintendo does not support moving Switch 2 save data back to Switch.
