The original idea joined synchronized movie watching with Xbox LIVE friends; current alternatives described by the companies serve different needs.
What was Xbox Party Mode?
Xbox LIVE Party was a social feature Microsoft announced in 2008. It let up to seven friends use voice chat, share photos and socialize while playing. In June 2009, Microsoft said the feature could also let people watch and share supported Netflix movies with up to seven Xbox LIVE friends. Microsoft’s 2008 announcement and its 2009 announcement establish what the companies presented at the time, but not the feature’s complete history.
Why bring it back?
A shared movie night in a party could combine playback, voice chat and the feeling of being together without asking everyone to coordinate a separate call. That is a different experience from simply watching the same title at the same time. A current version could make that social layer available to friends who are not in the same room, provided the service supports synchronized playback and makes participation straightforward.
That is the case for a return, not evidence of demand at a particular scale: the historical announcements describe the feature, and anecdotes such as “Bring back the party watching mode from Xbox 360!” are individual public comments rather than representative polling. No adoption figures or survey results establish how many players want it.

What do the current alternatives offer?

These alternatives address different situations: Netflix’s cited games use a TV and phones for group play, while Teleparty is described as browser-based synchronized viewing and chat. Neither source says that the original Xbox implementation has returned.
Can you use an Xbox 360 to watch Netflix together now?
No workaround is established by the available support information. Netflix says Microsoft retired the Xbox 360 Store on July 29, 2024, and that new Netflix app downloads are not supported. Has Microsoft or Netflix announced a comeback?
The official sources cited here do not confirm a plan to restore the original Party Mode, explain why the Netflix viewing feature ended, or establish that a current Xbox app supports synchronized Netflix viewing. They also do not establish whether Teleparty works on Xbox. The 2008 and 2009 announcements are historical descriptions, not evidence of a present product plan.

If Microsoft and Netflix choose to revive the idea, it should be a clearly labeled, opt-in feature that makes it easy to invite friends, synchronize supported playback and talk together. It should also explain which titles and devices are supported before a host starts a session. Those are reasons to want a modern return—not confirmed features or commitments from either company.
