Choose a PvE scenario if you want to explore, build, collect Deviations, and take on environmental or AI-controlled threats with other players. Choose a PvP scenario if you want structured competition: warbands fighting over frontier resources in Evolution’s Call, or factions contesting Prism Deviations in Prismverse’s Clash. If you’re new or unsure, the official guide recommends Manibus (Novice) as a starting point for any new player. Check the current scenario description and server platform tag before joining friends.
First, understand what a “server” means in Once Human
PvE and PvP are not simply two settings on otherwise identical servers. Once Human organizes play into scenarios: themed server experiences with their own rules, maps, stories, environmental mechanics, and PvE or PvP activities. Scenario phases can unlock additional modes and map regions. The official [console launch FAQ] describes this relationship between scenarios and servers.
That means the useful question is not just whether you want player combat. Consider the specific scenario’s activities and rules as well. The descriptions below reflect the official scenario guide published in August 2026; regional opening schedules and availability can differ, so confirm the in-game listing before signing up.

These are scenario descriptions, not guarantees that every PvE scenario has the same difficulty or every PvP scenario follows identical combat rules. Read the scenario’s current in-game details before you commit.

Check availability and platform before joining
The August 2026 official server guide lists Manibus, The Way of Winter, Endless Dream, and Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve as PvE options, and Evolution’s Call and Prismverse’s Clash as PvP options. Its opening schedules are region-specific, so a scenario’s sign-up timing may vary by region.
There is also an important distinction between scenario availability and permanent-server status. In December 2025, the developer said the permanent-server instances for Evolution’s Call and Prismverse’s Clash would close in January 2026, citing that those permanent servers usually had fewer than 50 active players. The August 2026 guide still lists both as PvP scenarios and gives sign-up schedules; the earlier notice was about permanent-server instances, not the end of all PvP scenarios. The figure applies to those permanent servers at the time of the notice, not to PvP players overall.

The August 2026 notice distinguishes cross-platform servers, accessible from any device, from servers marked “Console,” which are console-only. If you plan to play with friends, coordinate on both the scenario/server and the platform tag.

When a scenario ends, the official FAQ gives players three options: remain on that scenario server, sign up for another scenario/server, or return to Eternaland. Players who stay keep their progress and supplies; when leaving, relevant supplies move to Eternaland under the applicable rules.

For a new scenario, weapons, armor, materials, medicine, Deviations, and calibration blueprints transfer to Eternaland. Resource Inheritance Points can be used to bring selected items from Eternaland into the new scenario. The FAQ says fashions, some character data, most currencies, blueprints, formulas, design layouts, task progress, and some other data are inherited directly. Exact item rules can vary, so check the sign-up description for the scenario you are entering.
This is a planned path to another scenario after the current one ends; it is not the same as freely moving an active character between arbitrary servers. Follow the in-game sign-up and inheritance options.
How much should you rely on the old PvE-versus-PvP comparison?
A July 2024 launch FAQ described Manibus and Evolution’s Call as similar at launch in core rules, content, and story, with PvP content as their main distinction. That comparison is historical. The current guide covers more scenarios with different activities and mechanics, so use the present scenario descriptions—not the launch-era comparison—as your basis for choosing.
