Baldur’s Gate 3: plan turns and lead a party
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the more fitting option if you want a party-based campaign with turn-based tactical combat. You can take time to consider how to direct your group, and dialogue and choices are part of the role-playing experience. Pick it for that deliberate, character-and-party-centered rhythm rather than for real-time action.
Neither game is established by the official material reviewed as objectively better for difficulty, story, or campaign length. Treat those as matters of preference: consider whether you enjoy learning through action encounters or weighing tactical turns and role-playing decisions.

Can you play with friends?
Baldur’s Gate 3: cross-play and lobby setup
Larian documents four-player online multiplayer and cross-play across PC, Xbox, PlayStation 5, and Mac contexts. To set up cross-play, enable it in settings, link a Larian account, add friends through the Larian network, then create or join a cross-play lobby. The exact setup and supported platform context are described in Larian’s cross-play FAQ and multiplayer FAQ.
- Larian says split-screen is available on PC but not Steam Deck.
- For a modded cross-play lobby, everyone must use the exact same mods and versions, according to Larian’s mods and multiplayer FAQ.
- Each player needs to enable cross-play and link a Larian account for cross-play setup.
Elden Ring: verify the specific multiplayer setup
Bandai Namco’s official multiplayer-guide search excerpt supports a narrow point: specific friends can be invited when players are on the same platform. The guide page could not be verified beyond that excerpt, so confirm current platform compatibility, subscription requirements, and multiplayer rules before purchasing to play with a particular person.

Platforms and editions to check before buying
Elden Ring availability and expansion bundles
In an announcement dated August 28, 2026, Bandai Namco said Elden Ring is available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The announcement also says Elden Ring Tarnished Edition is available on Nintendo Switch 2 and bundles the base game with Shadow of the Erdtree. Check the platform store for the exact listing and terms.
Bandai Namco describes Tarnished Edition additions as two starting classes (Heavy Knight and Idus Knight), four armor sets, and three Torrent appearance options. It says the Tarnished Pack content is also offered for the other named platforms, but that does not establish identical commercial terms across stores. The official Elden Ring product page lists a game-and-expansion edition as well as separate DLC and product listings. Shadow of the Erdtree is an expansion, not a standalone game; check package contents and platform compatibility before purchase.

Bandai Namco’s August 28, 2026 announcement says the original Elden Ring had sold more than 30 million units and received more than 400 Game of the Year nominations; both are the publisher’s claims, not an independently audited comparison. The official pages reviewed did not establish a comparable Baldur’s Gate 3 sales figure, nor do they establish which game is cheaper now. Compare the live price, edition contents, and any required add-ons in your own store and region.
