Best completionist route: learn the fang’s purpose from Einar, give it to Morkvarg, ask him where his treasure is, then kill him in human form if you want. You can collect the treasure lead without letting him go. If you prefer to avoid restoring him to human form, feed him the werewolf meat looted from him earlier; that lifts the curse and kills him as a werewolf.

These figures are guide-reported walkthrough values, not a guarantee for every patch, level, or quest state. Witcher.tools lists a maximum of 265 XP and 85 crowns for a single playthrough, including the priestesses’ 50 XP and 85-crown reward; treat that as its accounting for the route, not a universal total.
How to get the treasure and still kill Morkvarg
- Begin In Wolf’s Clothing in Skellige and confront Morkvarg in Freya’s Garden. If you want the meat option, loot the werewolf meat from him during an earlier encounter; an ordinary kill does not end the curse permanently. Witcher.tools’ walkthrough and GameBanshee’s walkthrough describe the quest route.
- For the fang route, investigate the garden and read Morkvarg’s journal, then speak with Einar in Larvik. Hear his explanation of his father’s rune-carved wolf fang and its purpose before taking any action that kills him. Prima Games’ guide warns that the fang will not serve this quest if Einar dies before providing the needed information; GameBanshee gives the same warning.
- Return to Morkvarg after another encounter. Choose the option to give him the fang, then ask about the reward when he mentions it. This secures the Novigrad lead before you decide his fate.
- Follow the lead to the Novigrad moneylender and collect the treasure. It includes Deithwen and a werewolf decoction recipe/page, according to the Witcher.tools and GameBanshee walkthroughs.
- If you want to kill Morkvarg, return and kill him in human form. You do not have to let him leave to obtain the treasure clue. Complete the priestesses’ objective in Lofoten to claim their listed reward if it remains active.
When the werewolf-meat route makes sense
Choose this if you already looted Morkvarg’s meat and want to lift the curse without turning him human. Feed it to him when the dialogue option appears. This kills him in werewolf form, and Witcher.tools reports 50 XP; Prima lists Salmian brigandine for the route. It is not the same as killing him normally: an ordinary kill only lasts until the curse restores him.
Why Einar’s explanation matters
The fang is not simply an item to hand over whenever you find it. Its dialogue option depends on learning its function from Einar. Prima and GameBanshee warn that killing him before he explains the fang blocks that route. If you have already done so, the meat method remains available only if you looted Morkvarg’s werewolf meat earlier.

- Want the treasure and Morkvarg dead: use the fang, ask for the reward, collect the Novigrad treasure, then kill him in human form.
- Want a direct curse-ending kill: feed him his own werewolf meat, provided you looted it during an earlier encounter.
- Want to let him go: the fang route allows it, and Witcher.tools lists 80 XP for that outcome. You can still obtain the reward clue first.
