Spoilers: This guide explains how to end Morkvarg’s curse and what happens if you kill him, feed him his own werewolf meat, or give him Einar’s fang.
To preserve the fang solution, read Morkvarg’s journal, speak to Einar, and learn how the fang works before killing Einar. Killing Morkvarg in an early fight is not a permanent solution while the curse remains.
How to start and investigate In Wolf’s Clothing
The quest takes place in Freya’s Garden on Hindarsfjall. You can pick it up from a notice in Larvik, or encounter it while searching the garden with Yennefer during Nameless. The quests overlap because both involve the garden and the search for Craven. Prima Games’ quest guide and Witcher.tools’ walkthrough describe these routes.
Investigate the garden, including the chapter house and flooded cave, and read Morkvarg’s journal. Morkvarg initially appears as an undying werewolf: ordinary food turns to ash, and defeating him only delays his return. Loot the werewolf meat from his body if you intend to use the meat solution. GameBanshee’s walkthrough also covers the journal and garden investigation.

Why Einar and the fang matter
Morkvarg’s journal connects Einar to his crew. Einar explains that the fang caused the curse and that returning it to Morkvarg will lift it. Speak to Einar and learn how the fang works before deciding what to do with him: Prima’s Complete Edition guide warns that killing him before learning its use leaves the fang unusable for the cure. Prima Games’ Complete Edition guide and GameBanshee document this consequence.
Compare the choices and consequences
| Choice | Immediate result | Later consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Feed Morkvarg his own werewolf meat | He dies in werewolf form while the curse is active. | Return to the priestess for the contract reward. |
| Give Morkvarg Einar’s fang | The curse lifts and Morkvarg becomes human and mortal. | You can kill him or ask for his reward. |
| Ask for a reward after using the fang | Morkvarg gives a lead to his stored treasure. | The guides identify a Novigrad moneylender, Deithwen, and a werewolf decoction page. You can still kill Morkvarg afterward. |
| Kill Einar before learning how to use the fang | You can loot the fang, but the Complete Edition guide says it cannot cure Morkvarg. | If you still want to finish the quest, use the werewolf-meat route. |
The meat and fang outcomes, including the reward lead and the option to report back to the priestess, are documented by Witcher.tools, Prima Games, and GameBanshee.

Which choice is best?
There is no universally best route in the documented outcomes. Decide based on what you want from this quest: Morkvarg dead, his human form restored before deciding his fate, the treasure lead, or the option to claim the priestess’s contract reward. If you want the fang route available, the key practical choice is to learn its use from Einar before killing him.
Whether Morkvarg deserves mercy is a role-playing judgment, not a gameplay rule. Witcher.tools includes the line, “Remember, however, that it is a witcher’s job to kill monsters, not people, no matter how rotten they might be,” in its account of one possible outcome; it should not be read as a universal instruction for the quest.
