Killing him while he is still cursed does not resolve the encounter: he returns. You can lift the curse with the Cursed Fang or by feeding him his own flesh, and either route still leaves you free to fight him afterward.
What happens if you kill Morkvarg while he is cursed?
In the Skellige quest In Wolf’s Clothing, Morkvarg’s curse is why an ordinary kill is not final. He returns, so fighting him before removing the curse does not complete the problem. The quest guides describe two ways to lift it: use the Cursed Fang or feed Morkvarg his own flesh. Witcher Wiki quest guide; The Official Witcher Wiki.
How can you lift Morkvarg’s curse?
| Route | What you do | What follows |
|---|---|---|
| Cursed Fang | Use the fang associated with Einar to lift the curse. | You can ask Morkvarg for his promised reward before choosing whether to fight him. The guides connect the reward lead to a loanshark in Novigrad; the exact reward package is not established consistently across the cited guides. Witcher Wiki quest guide; Prima Games walkthrough. |
| His own flesh | Feed Morkvarg his own flesh to lift the curse. | Once the curse is lifted, you may still choose to fight him. The Official Witcher Wiki; Games Lantern walkthrough. |
Should you ask for the reward before deciding?
If you take the Cursed Fang route, the guides describe a reward conversation before the further choice to fight Morkvarg. Ask for the reward if you want to preserve that opportunity, then decide what to do with him. The available guides point toward a loanshark in Novigrad, but do not establish a universal reward amount or package, so do not rely on a specific total.
Does lifting the curse mean you have to spare him?
No. Curse removal and the decision to kill him are separate: the walkthroughs describe a further option to fight Morkvarg after the curse is lifted. For a permanent resolution, remove the curse first and then make your choice. Prima Games walkthrough.
#1 Best Overall
- Trained from early childhood and mutated to gain superhuman skills, strength, and reflexes, witchers are a counterbalance to the monster-infested world in which they live.
- Built for endless adventure, the massive open world of The Witcher sets new standards in terms of size, depth, and complexity.
- Take on the most important contract of your life: to track down the child of prophecy, the key to saving or destroying this world.
Can the quest get stuck?
The Official Witcher Wiki warns that In Wolf’s Clothing can become stuck. The walkthroughs support both curse-removal routes, but do not establish that every interaction permutation or game version is bug-free. If the quest stops progressing, avoid assuming that repeating a cursed-state kill will resolve it; consult a walkthrough matching your game version and check your active quest objectives.
