No—not in Java Edition. Fortune and Silk Touch are mutually exclusive, so you can’t normally put both on one pickaxe. Keep two pickaxes if you want both effects: use Silk Touch to collect blocks intact and Fortune when you want increased drops from blocks it affects.
Why Fortune and Silk Touch don’t go together in Java Edition
Java Edition places Fortune and Silk Touch in the same mutually exclusive mining enchantment set, so they cannot normally coexist on one pickaxe. Minecraft Wiki’s Java Edition enchantment-tag documentation lists both in that set.
What each enchantment does
- Silk Touch makes eligible mined blocks drop as blocks instead of breaking into other items or blocks. Minecraft Help describes Silk Touch this way.
- Fortune increases certain item-drop chances from blocks; it does not apply to every block. Minecraft Help’s Fortune description is deliberately limited to “certain” drops.
Which pickaxe should you use?
| Your goal | Use | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Collect or move the block itself | Silk Touch | The mined block drops as a block. |
| Get increased drops from a block Fortune affects | Fortune | Drop chances increase for certain blocks. |
| Keep ore blocks intact and decide later how to process them | Silk Touch now; Fortune later where applicable | Save the ore block, then mine it with a Fortune pickaxe when you want its drops. |
The third approach is a common reason to carry two pickaxes. Minecraft Wiki’s diamond-mining tutorial describes preserving ore with Silk Touch and using Fortune later.
Does the same rule apply in Bedrock Edition?
The explicit incompatibility evidence cited here is for Java Edition. Microsoft Learn’s Bedrock stable enchantment documentation describes enchantment effects, eligible tools and anvil application, but does not establish the Fortune–Silk Touch conflict rule. So the firm compatibility answer above is scoped to Java Edition rather than presented as a verified rule for every edition.
