Save Treviso if you want to keep Lucanis’s romance available; save Minrathous if that better fits Rook’s priorities or you want to limit the reported faction-strength loss. EA says saving Minrathous locks out Lucanis’s romance, while saving Treviso makes Neve disapprove but does not necessarily prevent her romance. Neither option is a universally correct choice: each leaves a different city and faction to bear the consequences.
What happens when you choose a city?
After “A Warden’s Best Friend,” Rook must respond to simultaneous blighted-dragon attacks. Choosing Treviso begins “On Deadly Wings”; choosing Minrathous begins “On Blighted Wings.” You fight the dragon threatening the city you defend, while the other city suffers the attack.
The city left undefended becomes blighted, its local faction is badly affected, and its associated companion is temporarily unavailable and gains the Hardened trait. GameSpot describes Hardened as removing that companion’s support or healing ability, strengthening some offensive effects, and slowing relationship progress. GameSpot’s choice guide details these gameplay effects.

The faction figures are gameplay values reported by GameSpot, not independent statistics. The guides identify losses to the faction associated with the city left to suffer the attack; they do not establish that those losses are permanent.

How to choose for your playthrough
- Lucanis’s romance is the priority: Save Treviso. EA Help’s romance guide says choosing Minrathous instead immediately bars Lucanis’s romance.
- You want to pursue Neve: Saving Treviso makes her disapprove, but EA says that does not necessarily rule out her romance. EA Help’s romance guide is the clearest source for this distinction.
- Faction strength matters most: GameSpot reports the larger penalty for leaving Minrathous undefended: −250 Shadow Dragons strength, compared with −100 Antivan Crows strength for leaving Treviso undefended. Treat these as guide-reported in-game values.
- Role-play matters most: Choose the city that fits Rook’s loyalties, values, or the story you want to experience. The choice also determines which city’s aftermath and mission route you encounter.
Do the merchant or ending change the decision?
The neglected city’s faction merchant is lost from that city and later appears in the Crossroads as a Wisp Merchant, according to Gamer Guides. Its older guide says valuables cannot be sold there to raise faction strength. PowerPyx’s later guide, referring to patch 1.000.003, says players can sell valuables to the Wisp Merchant. Because the accounts differ on a patch-sensitive mechanic, do not assume the older restriction still applies. PowerPyx’s patch 1.000.003 guide also reports that this choice does not prevent the best ending; saving Minrathous is not established as mandatory for that ending.
