Yes—sell ordinary valuables to faction merchants. They turn into gold and faction strength. Before confirming a sale, check the strength reward shown for that item: matching it with the right faction can earn more strength, while its gold sale price is the same across factions. Don’t mistake these loot items for purchasable valuables that grant permanent stat boosts, or for gear and armor, which cannot be sold.
What selling a valuable gives you
Selling ordinary valuables at a faction merchant pays gold and adds strength to that faction. The Dragon Age Wiki’s item reference lists a standard reward of +3 faction strength, with certain item-and-faction matches yielding +8, +15, or +75. Those are in-game reward values, not player or industry statistics. Dragon Age Wiki’s valuables reference provides the item-by-item figures.
The listed gold price is tied to rarity and is the same across factions, according to that reference. So if you are choosing between merchants, focus on faction strength rather than expecting a better sale price elsewhere.
How to choose which faction merchant gets an item
- Check the displayed faction-strength reward. At the merchant, compare the reward for the valuable across factions when you have a choice.
- Send bonus-reward items to the faction offering the higher amount. An item’s theme or apparent origin does not necessarily identify its best match; use the displayed reward.
- Direct standard-reward items to the faction you want to build. If the item does not offer a higher reward to another faction, choose based on your faction-strength priority.
Examples in the item reference include Dragon Tooth for +75 strength with the Lords of Fortune, Compendium of the Dead for +15 with the Mourn Watch, and Darkspawn Horn for +15 with the Grey Wardens. These are specific item-to-faction rewards; check the merchant’s display for the item you are selling.

Which valuables should you sell—and which should you keep?
The inventory label can be confusing because “valuables” covers two different kinds of items. Ordinary sellable valuables are collected from containers and enemies, then exchanged for gold and faction strength. A separate category of purchasable valuables grants a permanent listed stat boost as soon as you acquire it; they are not the ordinary loot you bring to a faction merchant.
| Item category | What happens |
|---|---|
| Ordinary sellable valuables | Sell to faction merchants for gold and faction strength. |
| Purchasable, stat-boosting valuables | Grant their listed permanent boost on acquisition; they are distinct from ordinary sellable loot. |
| Gear and armor | Cannot be sold; they are bought or found. |
The stat-boosting examples listed by the Dragon Age Wiki include Dragon’s Bounty (+25 Health), Amrita’s Distillate (+1% Defenses), Embrium Tincture (+1% Resistances), and Kirkwall Select 9:36 (+1% all Damage). These effects are described as permanent boosts granted when acquired, not as sale rewards. For the inventory distinction, Xbox Wire’s beginner guide says gear and armor are bought or found, never sold.

How reliable are the listed reward figures?
The item-specific table and broad mechanics come from a community-maintained Dragon Age Wiki page, so treat it as a reference rather than a developer statement. PC Gamer also describes selling valuables through faction-specific merchants and the +3, +8, +15, and +75 strength reward tiers: PC Gamer’s valuables guide. Xbox Wire confirms the distinction between sellable valuables and gear or armor, but does not provide a detailed faction-reward table. For an individual item in your current game, the merchant’s in-game reward display is the most direct check.
