Its listed effect is narrow: advantage on saving throws against being Charmed. It does not have a documented effect that blocks tadpole powers. The potion quest separately grants Survival Instinct to the character who drinks Omeluum’s potion.
What does Omeluum’s ring do?
The rare Ring of Mind-Shielding gives its wearer advantage on saving throws against being Charmed. In practical terms, that improves the wearer’s chance of resisting the Charmed condition when a relevant saving throw is called for. The item’s documented mechanics do not say that it prevents the parasite from influencing you or blocks tadpole powers.
Omeluum discusses the ring in the context of calming or limiting the parasite, but that in-game explanation should not be confused with the ring’s listed mechanical effect. Its listed in-game value is 70 gp.
Should you take the ring?
Take it if your character could benefit from better protection against Charm effects and the cost or dialogue check is acceptable. If you do not expect that benefit to matter to your build, there is no documented broader anti-tadpole effect that makes the ring essential. This is a character-equipment choice, not an established major story-branch decision.

How do you get Omeluum’s ring?
The offer comes after Omeluum’s attempt to remove the parasite. It ordinarily will not hand over the ring for free, but you can pursue several routes:
- Pay gold.
- Trade a story or information about the Nautiloid.
- Pass an available Persuasion or Intimidation dialogue check.
- Pickpocket the ring after it becomes available.
Dialogue options and which checks your character can attempt vary. If you want the ring without paying, look for an eligible dialogue check; pickpocketing is another possible route.

What happens during Help Omeluum Investigate the Parasite?
Omeluum asks you to bring Tongue of Madness and Timmask Spores so it can prepare a potion. After you return and a character drinks it, Omeluum attempts to remove the parasite but fails. The intervention instead strengthens the tadpole and grants Survival Instinct to the character who drank the potion.
The quest reference places the mushrooms in the Arcane Tower greenhouse and lists alternate ways to obtain them: Timmask Spores can be picked up in turn-based mode before the mushroom disappears, while Tongue of Madness can be bought from Derryth Bonecloak.

Does taking the ring affect Omeluum’s Act Three quest?
The available item and quest information does not establish that accepting the ring changes Omeluum’s later fate or Act Three content. Omeluum can appear in the Act Three quest Retrieve Omeluum, which involves its imprisonment in the Iron Throne and the possibility of rescuing it. Do not treat taking the ring as a documented way to alter that quest.
