Streamers can earn extra income through platform monetization, viewer support, affiliate product links, sponsorships, and services or products they sell themselves. The best fit depends on your audience, eligibility, and how much ongoing work you can take on; none guarantees a particular income. Start with the options your platform already makes available, then add independent offers that suit your community.
Platform monetization: start with what your account offers
YouTube and Twitch provide ways for eligible creators to earn through their platforms. Features, eligibility, policies, and payout terms can change, so check the official guidance and your account dashboard before planning around a particular feature.
YouTube: ads, shopping, memberships, and Super Thanks
YouTube lists advertising revenue, shopping, channel memberships, and Super Thanks among its monetization options. Depending on eligibility and availability, YouTube Shopping may let creators tag products from other brands through its affiliate program. Check your account for access and review the applicable YouTube monetization guidance and commerce policies.
Memberships offer recurring monthly payments in exchange for perks, while Super Thanks lets viewers provide paid support. Choose perks you can reliably deliver, such as a members-only post or community activity, rather than promising access or benefits you cannot maintain.

Twitch: check your dashboard and current terms
Twitch describes platform earning features and an Affiliate qualification and onboarding process. Eligibility is not automatic: consult the Twitch monetization help page and Affiliate FAQ, then check your dashboard for your current status and payout terms. These details may change.
Viewer support and community offers
Paid memberships and viewer contributions can work when people value the community around your streams. On YouTube, channel memberships and Super Thanks are platform features subject to the relevant monetization terms and policies. Make any perks specific and sustainable: a benefit that requires substantial work every week can turn a small revenue stream into a large ongoing commitment.

Keep support optional, explain what a payment does and does not provide, and avoid implying that viewers need to pay to be part of the community.
Affiliate links and product recommendations
Affiliate income may come from product links or eligible product tagging, including YouTube Shopping where it is available to your account. Recommend only products that genuinely fit your audience and that you can discuss accurately. Income depends on audience interest and purchases; a link or tag does not guarantee commissions.

Tell viewers clearly when a link or recommendation is affiliate-funded or otherwise sponsored, and follow the disclosure rules that apply where you live and on the platform you use.
Brand sponsorships
A sponsorship may involve a paid mention, a demonstration, or another agreed deliverable. Consider whether the brand and offer suit your viewers before accepting: trust can be harder to rebuild than a missed deal.
Twitch Creator Camp describes third-party sponsorships as a possible opportunity. In an announcement dated August 20, 2026, Twitch said sponsorships were available to Affiliates and that completing a Creator Profile may increase the chance of sponsorship opportunities. Sell a service or a product you can sustain
Your streaming skills may also support paid work beyond the stream itself. For example, you might offer editing or clip-making, coaching in a game you know well, or original merchandise for a community that wants it. Treat each as a separate small business decision: define what the buyer receives, how much time it takes, and whether you can keep delivering it alongside streaming.

Choose a side hustle by workload and audience fit
There is no established universal earnings ranking or reliable average income for these options. Compare them by what they ask of you and what your viewers are likely to value:

A sensible first step is to choose one option that matches an existing audience interest and track both the money received and the hours spent. If it competes with streaming or creates perks you cannot keep up with, revise or stop the offer.
Keep records and check tax obligations
Tax rules depend on your country and circumstances. For U.S. readers, the Internal Revenue Service says gig-economy income must be reported on a tax return even when it comes from part-time, temporary, or side work. It also says a return is required for net self-employment earnings from gig work of $400 or more. Read the IRS Gig Economy Tax Center and IRS guidance on taxes for gig work; consult a qualified tax professional about your situation. Those U.S. thresholds should not be applied to other countries.
Keep records of payouts, expenses, sponsorship arrangements, and affiliate earnings. Separating business-related transactions from personal spending can make it easier to understand what you earned and what records you may need.
