The complaints that Silent Hill 2 looked worse on PS5 Pro describe launch-era comparisons, not the game’s entire current history. Konami later issued graphics fixes and a broad patch, but it also acknowledged new Performance Mode problems after the August 2026 update. The latest verified status is mixed: some visuals and performance were improved, while a newly reported issue was still under investigation.
Which Silent Hill game and complaint is this about?
This is about Bloober Team’s 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2, published by Konami—not another game in the series. Konami says the remake launched in October 2024. The “looks worse” criticism arose around the PS5 Pro launch, when players reported visual defects, including flickering reflections. Those reports describe player experiences; they do not establish that every Pro owner, graphics mode, or game version had the same result. GameSpot reported the complaints on November 19, 2024, while HotHardware covered reflection complaints on November 18, 2024.

The game’s commercial scale is separate from the graphics debate: Konami Group Corporation reported that the remake had sold over two million copies in total three months after its October 2024 release. That figure says nothing about image quality on either console. Konami’s 2025 corporate report provides the sales context.
Why did the PS5 Pro version draw criticism?
The early argument centered on image quality in the initial Pro-enhanced release, including the effects of PSSR, Sony’s image-upscaling technology. In a November 19, 2024 analysis, Digital Foundry called the update a mixed bag. Its description notes that, when comparing the disc version without the Pro patch, there was an argument that removing PSSR could produce a better-looking image. That is a specific comparison of an unpatched disc version with the Pro-patched experience—not proof that the base PS5 always looked better than the Pro, or that every mode and later patch behaved the same way.
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
- KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
- The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
- Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K
Two variables matter when interpreting any comparison: the game’s patch state and its graphics mode. Launch-era footage should not be treated as a direct picture of the latest version, and a reported Performance Mode problem should not automatically be applied to Quality Mode.
What changed in later updates?
Patch 1.06 addressed early Pro graphics issues
In November 2024, GameSpot reported that patch 1.06 included fixes for PS5 Pro graphics issues. That was an early response, not the end of the update history. GameSpot’s patch 1.06 report reflects that stage of the story.
Sony announced upgraded PSSR support
On March 16, 2026, Sony announced that Silent Hill 2 was among the Konami titles set to use an evolved version of PSSR. Sony describes PSSR as an AI upscaling system; Sid Shuman, Senior Director of Content Communications at Sony Interactive Entertainment, wrote that “PSSR is an AI library that analyzes each frame pixel by pixel as it upscales game visuals.” That explains Sony’s technology, but a platform-level announcement does not independently prove a particular result in every game or mode. Sony’s PlayStation Blog announcement names Silent Hill 2 among the supported games.
Patch 1.07 listed broad visual and performance improvements
Konami’s Japanese official notice says the PS5 and PS5 Pro update was applied on August 6, 2026. Its August 7 notice lists improvements to Performance and Quality modes, fog rendering, certain asset-display problems, motion-related visual disturbances, and overall rendering quality. Konami’s translated summary says the update “improves performance in Performance Mode and Quality Mode.” Players can check that the title screen displays version 1.0.7. Konami’s patch 1.07 notice is the official source for those changes.

Is the PS5 Pro visual issue fixed?
Not completely, based on the latest verified status. On August 7, 2026, Konami UK acknowledged new issues affecting Performance Mode on both PS5 and PS5 Pro after patch 1.07 and said its team was investigating potential solutions. Push Square’s report describes player reports of crushed blacks and says the upgraded PSSR resolved some earlier upscaling issues at 60fps. These are distinct from the launch-era flickering-reflection complaints; neither should be treated as a universal result for every player. Push Square reported Konami’s acknowledgment and the subsequent Performance Mode complaints.
So the accurate answer is neither “the Pro version is still wholly broken” nor “the problem is conclusively fixed.” Konami’s 1.07 notes describe meaningful improvements, while the publisher’s later acknowledgment confirms a new Performance Mode issue was still being investigated. The available confirmation establishes no later official fix.
