Both Bliss and Stillness require New Game+. Stillness also requires that you have already seen the In Water ending on an earlier run. The official PlayStation guide confirms those high-level requirements; the precise item routes below come from the unofficial specialist walkthrough Silent Hill Memories.
PlayStation itself recommends finishing an initial playthrough before reading ending requirements, since even the ending names can spoil parts of the game. If you are ready for route details, the distinction between confirmed requirements and guide-reported steps matters: PlayStation confirms the broad unlock rules, while the exact safe codes, items, and sequence below come from a specialist secondary guide.

How Bliss and Stillness fit into the remake’s endings
The 2024 remake has eight endings: the six classic endings and two new ones, Bliss and Stillness. PlayStation’s official replay guide groups them by when they can be unlocked: Leave, In Water, and Maria can occur on a first playthrough, while Rebirth, Dog, UFO, Bliss, and Stillness require New Game+.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe first-run endings are shaped by how you treat James, how you fight or flee, how much time you spend with Maria, and particular actions and choices. The five New Game+ endings instead require specific steps. That means Bliss and Stillness are not simply different results of the same broad behavior patterns used to influence Leave, In Water, or Maria: each has an item-based route to follow during a replay.

The official guide warns that the ending names and requirements can themselves spoil the game and recommends finishing an initial run before consulting the routes: PlayStation’s Silent Hill 2 replay guide. It offers a high-level hint for Bliss and confirms Stillness’s prior-ending requirement, but deliberately leaves the precise new-ending steps unstated. For those details, this guide attributes the route to Silent Hill Memories rather than presenting it as official PlayStation guidance.
The remake is available for PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam, according to Konami’s platform listing. The route information here concerns the 2024 remake; it should not be assumed to describe the original 2001 game’s ending system.
How do you get the Bliss ending in Silent Hill 2 Remake?
Bliss is available only in New Game+. PlayStation confirms that it involves a scavenger hunt and suggests starting around Nathan Avenue, but intentionally does not publish the exact sequence. The detailed route below is reported by the unofficial walkthrough Silent Hill Memories’ Silent Hill 2 Remake endings guide.
-
In New Game+, find the memo near a corpse at the west end of Nathan Avenue. It provides a clue to the safe combination. Nathan Avenue is the official guide’s suggested starting area; the memo and subsequent locations are details supplied by the secondary walkthrough.
-
Go to Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama and open the safe with code 1887. Take the Rusted Key and letter inside. The safe is the scavenger hunt’s first major payoff, so make sure you collect both objects rather than leaving with only the key.
-
Find the Small Chest in the gazebo in Brookhaven Hospital’s Garden. Use the Rusted Key on it to obtain White Claudia. In other words, the key and chest are linked steps: finding the chest without the key will not complete the reported item route.
-
At Lakeview Hotel, enter Room 312 and use White Claudia before playing the videotape. Playing the tape after using the item triggers Bliss. The order is important: the guide’s route specifically places the White Claudia interaction before the videotape.

The sequence and combination are from the specialist walkthrough, rather than the official PlayStation article. PlayStation confirms the New Game+ and scavenger-hunt requirements but withholds the precise steps. Its Nathan Avenue hint points you toward the hunt, not toward a complete list of locations or the combination.
In practical terms, the reported sequence runs from the clue on Nathan Avenue to the Bowl-O-Rama safe, then to Brookhaven Hospital’s Garden, and finally to Lakeview Hotel Room 312. If you want Bliss, keep the New Game+ scavenger-hunt route in mind as you revisit those areas, and do not leave the Room 312 videotape step until after you have used White Claudia. The source set contains no official developer explanation of why the item triggers this ending.
How do you unlock the Stillness ending?
Stillness also requires New Game+. In addition, PlayStation says you must have seen In Water during a previous run. That prerequisite is distinct from the item route: meeting it does not replace the New Game+ steps. The exact route below is attributed to Silent Hill Memories, not to the official guide.
-
In New Game+, look for the Key of Sorrow in a green car on Wiltse Road, after the tunnel. This is the first item in the reported Stillness route.

Go to the Manager’s Office in the Ruined Hotel. Use the Key of Sorrow to open the safe and enter code 314. The key and combination are both part of the secondary guide’s route.
-
Take the Toluca Postcard from the safe and carry it through the ending sequence to receive Stillness. The guide does not describe this as a first-run ending or as a route that bypasses the New Game+ requirement.
Silent Hill Memories says the postcard takes priority over the four items used for Rebirth if you have collected both sets. Because this is a detail from the specialist walkthrough, treat it as guide-reported route information rather than an official PlayStation rule. If you are pursuing Stillness, the relevant reported item is the postcard; collecting the Rebirth items as well does not, according to that guide, override it.

The prior In Water condition is the key difference between Stillness and Bliss. PlayStation explicitly connects Stillness to an earlier run in which you saw In Water, but does not state that a prior ending is needed for Bliss. The source does not give a more elaborate explanation of how the previous ending is tracked, so the safe takeaway is simply to complete In Water in an earlier playthrough before attempting the Stillness route.

Bliss and Stillness unlock requirements compared
| Ending | New Game+ required? | Prior ending required? | Item route in the specialist walkthrough | What PlayStation confirms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bliss | Yes | None stated | Find the Rusted Key and letter in Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama safe (1887), get White Claudia from the Garden gazebo chest, then use it in Room 312 before playing the videotape. | New Game+ and a scavenger hunt; Nathan Avenue is a suggested starting point. Exact steps are withheld. |
| Stillness | Yes | In Water on a previous run | Take the Key of Sorrow from the green car on Wiltse Road, open the Ruined Hotel safe with code 314, and carry the Toluca Postcard through the ending sequence. | New Game+ and a prior In Water ending. Exact steps are withheld. |
PlayStation’s official route overview is available in its replay guide. The detailed Bliss and Stillness steps in the table are from Silent Hill Memories. The table separates what the platform-holder confirms from what the specialist walkthrough adds: the broad requirements are official, while the exact objects, codes, and route order are secondary-source details.
In short, both endings are replay-only routes, but Stillness has an additional prerequisite. Bliss centers on using White Claudia at the hotel after a town-wide scavenger hunt; Stillness centers on carrying a postcard from the Ruined Hotel safe through the ending sequence. If deciding which to pursue, the most important planning difference is that Stillness asks for an earlier In Water ending, while no such prior-ending condition is stated for Bliss.
Do I need New Game Plus for the new endings?
Yes. Both Bliss and Stillness are New Game+ endings, according to PlayStation. Its guide lists three endings for a first playthrough—Leave, In Water, and Maria—and five additional endings in New Game+: Rebirth, Dog, UFO, Bliss, and Stillness. For Stillness, the previous-run requirement is specifically an In Water ending.
New Game+ is therefore not an optional shortcut for either new ending. A first playthrough can produce one of the three first-run endings, but PlayStation places both Bliss and Stillness among the five endings that require a replay and specific steps. The exact routes in this article come from Silent Hill Memories because the official guide does not publish them.
Do I need to get In Water before Stillness?
Yes. PlayStation’s replay guide says you must have seen In Water on an earlier run to unlock Stillness. The guide does not say that In Water is required for Bliss. It is best to understand this as a prerequisite in addition to Stillness’s New Game+ item route—not as a substitute for finding the Key of Sorrow and Toluca Postcard.
What Bliss and Stillness may mean—and what is not confirmed
Bliss: an altered or comforting escape?
The name Bliss, combined with the White Claudia item route and its use before the videotape, invites an interpretation that James enters a comforting or altered experience. That is a reading of the sequence, not an established explanation from the developers. PlayStation confirms the unlock structure but does not explain Bliss’s narrative meaning.
Rank #4
The route itself is the basis for that reading: the player gathers White Claudia and uses it immediately before the videotape sequence that leads to the ending. That can suggest an escape into an altered or reassuring version of events, but the sources consulted do not establish whether that interpretation is correct, nor do they provide an official account of what James experiences. Keep the distinction clear between the route’s observable order and a theory about its meaning.
Stillness: a companion to In Water?
Silent Hill Memories describes Stillness as an expansion or companion to In Water. The structural link is clear in the unlock condition: PlayStation requires a prior In Water ending, and the specialist route centers on a postcard obtained from the Ruined Hotel safe. That connection can inform a reading of the ending, but it does not prove a particular story theory or establish that Stillness is canonical. PlayStation confirms the prerequisite, not a definitive interpretation of the scene.

Because the official source does not explain why In Water is required, avoid treating that condition as proof of a specific plot interpretation. It does establish a relationship in the unlock structure: a player must have seen In Water before Stillness becomes available. The exact meaning of that relationship remains interpretive in the sources used here.
In a 2022 PlayStation Blog interview about the remake’s broader design, Creative Director and Lead Designer Mateusz Lenart said one goal was to preserve the atmosphere of Silent Hill 2 while modernizing aspects of its gameplay. That was general design context, not a statement about Bliss or Stillness: PlayStation Blog’s 2022 remake announcement and interview. Neither that interview nor the official ending guide provides a named developer’s explanation of either added ending.

Best Value
No direct playtesting was performed for this guide, and the exact route details rely on one specialist secondary walkthrough because PlayStation intentionally leaves them out. That is why the item routes are attributed rather than presented as official instructions. The research used here also found no named-person quotation specifically explaining either ending and no relevant statistic to add; there is no basis for inventing one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need New Game Plus for the Bliss ending?
Yes. PlayStation lists Bliss among the five endings that require New Game+. Its official guide confirms the scavenger-hunt structure and suggests Nathan Avenue as a starting point; the exact item route comes from Silent Hill Memories.
How do you get the Bliss ending in Silent Hill 2 Remake?
The specialist walkthrough reports this New Game+ sequence: find the memo near a corpse at the west end of Nathan Avenue, open the Pete’s Bowl-O-Rama safe with code 1887 and take the Rusted Key and letter, use the key on the Small Chest in the Brookhaven Hospital Garden gazebo to get White Claudia, then use White Claudia in Lakeview Hotel Room 312 before playing the videotape.
Do I need to get In Water before Stillness?
Yes. PlayStation says you must have seen In Water during a previous run to unlock Stillness. You also need New Game+ and, according to Silent Hill Memories, must obtain the Toluca Postcard from the Ruined Hotel safe and carry it through the ending sequence.
What is the Stillness ending item route?
Silent Hill Memories reports that in New Game+ you take the Key of Sorrow from a green car on Wiltse Road after the tunnel, use it with code 314 on the Ruined Hotel Manager’s Office safe, and take the Toluca Postcard. The official PlayStation guide confirms the New Game+ and prior In Water requirements, but not those exact steps.
Is Stillness confirmed to be canon or an official explanation of In Water?
The sources consulted do not say that Stillness is canonical or provide a developer explanation of its meaning. Silent Hill Memories calls it an expansion or companion to In Water; that is a specialist guide’s interpretation, while PlayStation confirms only the prior In Water unlock requirement.
The Bottom Line
Bliss and Stillness are both New Game+ endings, but only Stillness requires a prior In Water ending, according to PlayStation. For the exact routes, Silent Hill Memories reports White Claudia before the Room 312 videotape for Bliss, and the Toluca Postcard from the Ruined Hotel safe for Stillness. Treat their story meanings as interpretations, not confirmed developer explanations.
