Silent Hill 2 remake’s first game patch, released on 21 October 2024, added new graphics options and technical fixes on Steam PC while correcting gameplay and stability issues across platforms. The PC notes include DLSS frame generation, AMD FSR 3.1.1 support and Steam Deck optimization; they do not report measured frame-rate gains. A Labyrinth progression issue tied to saves made before the update led Konami to issue a separate 1.05 hotfix four days later.
What did Silent Hill 2 Remake patch 1.04 change?
Konami’s 21 October 2024 announcement described version 1.04 as the game’s first patch. Its changes fall into two broad groups: Steam PC-specific graphics and performance features, and gameplay fixes covering locations, traversal, encounters and item interactions. PS5 received its own stability and motion-blur fixes alongside gameplay corrections.

Steam PC: graphics options and technical fixes
The Steam PC changelog listed these rendering and system changes:
#1 Best Overall
- Fully Remade to terrify modern audiences
- KONAMI's intense psychological horror masterpiece SILENT HILL 2 is made exclusively for PlayStation 5
- The main protagonist James Sunderland searches for clues in the namesake town, after receiving a mysterious letter from his wife Mary… who has long been dead
- Experience the eerie monsters and other manifestations of James' consciousness reworked after 20 years
- Made with state-of-the-art technology to play on modern entertainment systems in 4K
- Reduced visual glitches with the latest version of NVIDIA DLSS.
- An option for DLSS frame generation when using DLSS supersampling.
- NVIDIA Reflex activation when frame generation is enabled.
- Support for AMD FSR 3.1.1, plus an AMD Fluid Motion Frames option when FSR 3.1 is used for supersampling.
- Updated Intel Nanites for upcoming driver updates.
- Improved Steam Deck performance and optimization.
- A fix for stutter during sky-map generation.
- An HZB-culling toggle intended to address stutter on some AMD and Intel GPUs.
- Local saving for graphics settings.
These are listed features and fixes, not evidence of a quantified performance gain. The HZB-culling option is described as addressing stutter on some AMD and Intel GPUs; the notes do not claim a universal benefit.
Gameplay fixes across platforms
Version 1.04 corrected a mix of traversal, encounter and interaction problems. Named examples in the changelog include:
- A Brookhaven Hospital peephole interaction that could teleport James.
- Getting stuck in window frames, along with other collision and traversal issues.
- Incorrect behavior during the Abstract Daddy encounter and several Labyrinth events.
- Weapon switching while aiming, which was adjusted to feel more natural.
- Item pickup during the final boss fight.
The patch also included smaller location and visual corrections. These gameplay changes should not be confused with the PC-only rendering additions.
PS5: crash and motion-blur fixes
The PS5-specific technical notes list fixes for rare crashes involving AI, texture binding, streaming and audio portal updates. They also address a problem with switching the in-game motion-blur setting. PS5 received gameplay corrections involving locations, traversal, encounters, localization and item pickup, but the notes do not assign Steam PC features such as DLSS, FSR, HZB culling or Steam Deck optimization to the console version.

What changed after 1.04: the 1.05 Labyrinth hotfix
Konami’s notice dated 25 October 2024 identifies the follow-up as version v.1.1.244,738. It addresses a progression blocker that could affect players who saved after Toluca Prison while on the previous version, then loaded that save after installing 1.04. Konami says the hotfix added a safeguard to activate the required Labyrinth triggers.
The notice also says Steam Cloud support was enabled for Steam PC players in this follow-up, not in patch 1.04. Konami warns that a newer cloud save syncs automatically and can overwrite the local save without a warning; it recommends backing up local saves when players want to keep multiple versions.
