The right fix depends on what is flickering. If Silent Hill f shrinks into the top-left quarter of a PC screen while colored smears flicker elsewhere, try turning motion blur back on. If the whole PS5 display briefly goes black or loses signal, troubleshoot the HDMI connection first, then test the console’s 4K Video Transfer Rate setting. These are separate symptoms, and neither approach is a confirmed fix for every case.
First, identify which kind of flicker you have
- PC rendering artifact: the game image contracts into the top-left quarter of the screen and colored, flickering smears fill the rest. A PC Gamer reviewer associated this specific glitch with turning motion blur off and reported avoiding it by leaving motion blur on. That is one reviewer’s workaround, not an official or universal fix.
- PS5 black-screen flicker or signal dropout: the display briefly goes black or appears to lose the console signal. Start with the HDMI connection and display settings; these steps address a suspected console-to-display problem, not an in-game rendering artifact.
- Another symptom or platform: the reviewed sources do not establish a Silent Hill f-specific fix for every kind of flicker on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S. Avoid applying instructions for one symptom or platform to another.
PC: fix the quarter-screen image and colored smears
- Open the game’s graphics settings and turn Motion Blur on. The reviewer’s account links the reported quarter-screen glitch to disabling motion blur. Check whether the artifact stops; the report does not establish that motion blur causes every flicker or that this workaround works on every PC configuration.
- If the glitch remains, note when it occurs, your graphics settings, the game version, and your GPU and driver details. Capture a short video if possible. The available game-specific evidence does not establish another fix, so avoid treating driver swaps, configuration-file edits, mods, or hardware purchases as proven remedies.
- Check Konami’s current notices for later updates. The reviewed patch notes do not explicitly identify a screen-flicker fix; see the version history below.
PS5: troubleshoot a flickering black screen or signal loss
Bethesda’s general PS5 display troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the console-to-display connection. Try these steps in order:
- Restart the PS5.
- Unplug and reconnect the HDMI cable at both the console and the display.
- Try a different HDMI port on the display.
- If available, test with another known-good HDMI cable. This is a diagnostic step, not a recommendation to buy a particular cable.
- If the black-screen flicker continues, open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output > 4K Video Transfer Rate. Change Automatic to -1 and test. If that does not help, try -2. Change one value at a time; return to Automatic if the picture worsens or neither setting helps.
The transfer-rate suggestion is for a flickering black screen and is not established as a fix for colored artifacts rendered inside the game. If other games and display sources work normally and the issue occurs only in Silent Hill f, save a video and note the game version before contacting support. PlayStation’s general game-support page asks users reporting launch trouble to provide an error code if one appears, a description, reproduction steps, and a screenshot or video; that page is not specific to flickering.
Xbox Series X|S: what to check
The reviewed Konami notices cover Xbox Series X|S updates but do not give an Xbox-specific flicker procedure. Confirm that the game and console are current, then check whether the same display symptom appears in other games or apps. If it does, inspect the display connection using the display maker’s guidance. Do not use the PS5-only 4K Video Transfer Rate menu steps on Xbox.

What the Silent Hill f patch notes say about flicker
Konami’s reviewed notices describe fixes, but none explicitly names screen flickering. An unmentioned issue should not be treated as either confirmed fixed or confirmed unresolved.

PS5 Pro PSSR is not a confirmed flicker fix
Sony announced on March 16, 2026 that Silent Hill f would use upgraded PSSR on PS5 Pro. Sony describes more precise image reconstruction and improved motion stability in general, while the SILENT HILL f Production Team says the update brings greater clarity to fine details and a smoother gameplay experience. Neither statement claims that PSSR fixes the motion-blur-related quarter-screen glitch or all screen flickering. Read Sony’s announcement.
