To open the Secret Box in the second-floor classroom, solve its three clue layers in order: fruit, journals, then blooming sakura. The required symbols and their counts change with difficulty, so use the matching set below. Rotate or slide panels on both sides, inspect the revealed icons, and confirm each completed layer.
Where to find the Secret Box
During the Ebisugaoka Middle School sequence, Hinako becomes trapped in an old classroom on the second floor. The Secret Box is on a desk and is part of the classroom escape. Inspect the box and the desks, including Hinako’s and Shu’s, for context. Each completed layer reveals another page of the Unopened Envelope with the next clue. A walkthrough notes that leaving the classroom may reset the puzzle, so it is safer to finish before exiting. SilentHill-f.org’s Secret Box guide and PC Gamer’s school puzzle walkthrough cover the classroom sequence.
Secret Box solutions by difficulty
These are the symbols to reveal, not a universal sequence of button presses: panel arrangements differ, and you need to work across both sides of the box. The themes remain fruit, journals, and sakura in every mode; the number of required icons increases with difficulty.
| Difficulty | Layer 1: fruit | Layer 2: journals | Layer 3: blooming sakura |
|---|---|---|---|
| Story | Reveal a strawberry and a cherry, one on each side. | Reveal three book icons: two on one side and one on the other. | Reveal the single cherry-blossom branch. |
| Hard | Reveal six icons: apple, cherry, and cut orange on one side; strawberry, pineapple, and grapes on the other. | Reveal four book icons: three on one side and one on the other. | Reveal three sakura-related icons: two leafy branches on one side and a cherry-blossom tree on the other. |
| Lost in the Fog | Reveal six sweet-fruit icons: cherry, strawberry, berries, and pineapple on one side; cut orange and apple on the other. Do not select eggplant or tomato. | Reveal five book icons: four on one side and one on the other. | Reveal four cherry-blossom icons: three on one side and one on the other. Choose blossoming branches rather than trees or potted plants. |
The counts and icon objectives are described in SilentHill-f.org’s difficulty-specific guide and Silent Hill Memories’ middle-school walkthrough. For panel-position details, see PowerPyx’s all-puzzles guide; its “Side 1” refers to the side where the puzzle starts.

How to work through the three layers
- Read the current envelope clue. The wording changes after each successful layer, so do not assume the first clue applies to the whole box.
- Rotate or slide panels on both sides. Story has eight interactive white panels, Hard has twelve interactive brown panels, and Lost in the Fog uses all twenty panels, according to SilentHill-f.org’s guide.
- Check the icons against the correct row above. In Lost in the Fog, the fruit clue specifies sweet fruits, so eggplant and tomato are not valid selections. For the final clue, look for cherry blossoms rather than choosing any tree or potted plant.
- Confirm the completed arrangement. Once the required icons are revealed across both sides, confirm the layer to receive the next envelope clue.
- Repeat for all three clues. Completing the box gives you the Second Floor Classroom Generic Key, which opens the way out of the classroom.
