Silent Hill: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror game that launched on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store. It is set in 1996 on the fictional Scottish island of St. Amelia, where Simon Ordell returns to “put things right” in a fogbound town that appears abandoned but still carries the traces of its residents.
The game is the first full-length Silent Hill presented entirely in first person. Its exploration, stealth, evasion, melee and firearm encounters are tied to story-focused puzzles, with the fictional CRTV serving as its signature tool for detecting threats and uncovering clues.

Release status, date and editions
Konami’s United States launch announcement gives September 24, 2026, as the release date. Steam currently shows September 23, a one-day storefront-date difference rather than evidence of a separate game launch. The game is available on PlayStation 5, Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Konami’s pre-launch materials described Standard and Deluxe editions. They also described a digital artbook and soundtrack, plus a 48-hour early-access benefit for Deluxe pre-orders. Those were pre-release terms; they should not be treated as current purchase benefits after launch without checking the live store or retailer listing.

Where the story takes place
St. Amelia in 1996
Townfall moves the series to St. Amelia, a fictional, remote island off Scotland, and fixes the story in 1996. The town is wrapped in fog and seems deserted, but its streets and interiors retain memories and traces of the people who lived there. The setting is not simply an old place left to rot: the developer describes it as recently lived in and marked by recent trauma.
Writer and director Jon McKellan said Scotland was chosen because it is the team’s home region: “Scotland is where we grew up; it’s the environment most familiar and natural for us to depict.” He also connected the location to the series’ atmosphere, saying Scotland’s fog made it a fitting place for Silent Hill. That is McKellan’s explanation of the creative choice, not an independent climate study.
Simon Ordell’s return
You play Simon Ordell, who comes back to the island with the stated purpose of putting things right. Official descriptions do not reduce the mystery to a simple investigation. The abandoned-looking town, the remnants of its residents and Simon’s own memories all feed the psychological unease. The result is a setting where ordinary rooms, objects and routes can carry narrative meaning before the game explains why.

Who developed Townfall
Glasgow-based Screen Burn Interactive developed the game, with Konami and Annapurna Interactive as co-publishers. Screen Burn describes itself as the studio formerly known as No Code. It was formed in 2015 and previously made the narrative games Stories Untold and Observation.
In a PlayStation Blog interview, Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto said Annapurna introduced Konami to Screen Burn. He pointed to the studio’s earlier narrative work as part of the reason he trusted the team with a new Silent Hill. The partnership therefore combines Konami’s series stewardship with a developer known for compact, story-led games built around investigation and unusual interfaces.
McKellan summarized the studio’s goal this way: “With Silent Hill: Townfall, we at Screen Burn Interactive wanted to both evolve the unique narrative design that we had experimented with in our past games while pushing into ambitious territory, with a new town to explore, horrific enemies to fight and evade, and story-driven puzzles that help deliver a new but distinctly Silent Hill tale of mystery, tragedy and loss.” This is a statement of design intent, not a claim about independent review results.

How Townfall plays
First-person exploration
Townfall is the first full-length Silent Hill game presented entirely from a first-person viewpoint. That perspective puts doors, objects, notes and mechanisms at close range, making observation part of the puzzle design rather than just a way to aim weapons. McKellan said the viewpoint was necessary for the CRTV: “the CRTV couldn’t work from any other perspective.”
Stealth, evasion and combat
Threats can be handled in more than one way. The official descriptions allow for fighting, sneaking past enemies and evading them. You can track enemy positions from cover and use distractions to change how a threat moves through an area. Encounters therefore involve deciding whether to spend resources on a confrontation, create space and escape, or remain hidden while the danger passes.
Melee and firearm combat are both part of the game. The available descriptions do not establish a universal “combat-only” or “stealth-only” route; instead, they present those options as parts of the same exploration loop. Sound, visibility and the layout of a room matter because a failed attempt to stay hidden can turn a puzzle area into a fight.
Story-driven puzzles
Puzzles are closely tied to the narrative rather than being detached lock-and-key exercises. Details found during exploration can explain what a mechanism means, while the CRTV can supply signals that point toward a solution. The first-person camera supports tactile interactions with small objects and environmental details, so progress depends on looking carefully as well as understanding the story.
The CRTV: Townfall’s replacement for the series radio
The CRTV is a portable pocket television and a fictional in-game device, not a consumer product sold as an accessory. It reworks the familiar Silent Hill radio concept around unstable analog television signals. Tuning the CRTV can reveal nearby threats, fragments of the town’s story and clues for puzzles.
Because the signals are unstable, the device is both an information source and a source of uncertainty. A player may use it to work out where danger is located, interpret a story fragment or identify the frequency needed to progress. The device also gives the first-person camera a mechanical purpose: you manipulate it directly, rather than watching a character use it from outside the action.

- Experienced entirely in first person, explore, evade, and survive using a limited set of weapons and tools, including a pocket television used to tune into unstable signals. Evasion is tense; combat is frenetic, while narrative driven puzzles reveal a truth that refuses to stay submerged.
- SILENT HILL: Townfall is a full-length, self-contained psychological horror set against the cold, isolated backdrop of Scotland, 1996
On PlayStation 5, optional motion controls can be used for CRTV tuning and aiming. The game’s official descriptions do not establish that an equivalent motion-control feature exists on PC.
Why the town feels different from a simple abandoned setting
PlayStation’s developer feature describes horror built through sound, visual cues, quiet exploration and rising tension. St. Amelia is intended to feel as though people were there recently, with the effects of trauma still shaping the environment. That approach changes how you read an empty room: household details and traces of routine can be as important as visible monsters.
The fog limits certainty without making every moment an action sequence. Audio can suggest a threat before it is visible, while visual details can reward slow examination. The design emphasis is on accumulating doubt and tension rather than explaining the town immediately.
Endings and replay structure
Steam describes multiple endings shaped by player actions. McKellan said all three main endings can be reached during a first playthrough, while a secret ending becomes available after you clear the game once. That information comes from the developer’s interview and store description; it has not been presented here as an independently tested completion route.
The structure means a first run is not automatically a “bad ending” path that requires a second save to see the principal outcomes. A subsequent clear is specifically relevant to the secret ending, while choices made during the initial story determine which of the three main conclusions you receive.

Physical versus digital: what is actually confirmed
If you want a boxed copy, the confirmed option is PlayStation 5: Konami explicitly says physical PS5 versions are available. Official sources reviewed for this article do not establish a current Amazon listing, price or stock level, so retailer availability needs to be checked at the time of purchase.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesDigital buyers can choose the PS5, Steam or Epic Games Store versions. The launch announcement’s Deluxe pre-order bonuses belong to the pre-release sales window; do not assume that a post-launch Deluxe purchase still includes 48-hour early access unless the current store terms say so.
What the franchise sales figure does—and does not—tell you
Konami reported that the Silent Hill series had sold over 17.8 million copies worldwide as of the end of June 2026. The company’s footnote says that total includes units shipped, store downloads and subscription services. It is a franchise-wide figure, not a sales result for Townfall.
No Townfall-specific sales number or independent named study is established in the official material used here. The 17.8-million figure should therefore be read as background for the series’ reach, not as evidence of how the 2026 game performed.
Patch and information freshness
Screen Burn’s studio site lists Townfall patch version 1.4.0 as released on October 9, 2026. The listing confirms the patch date and version, but the material available here does not provide a complete change log. Storefront labels, platform availability and retailer inventory can change after launch, so the live platform page is the authority for current download status and any newly added purchase terms.
