Search the nearby spaces, compare documents with environmental details, and use the CRTV to find and inspect signals. If a code still fails, check that you have collected the clue item tied to it: knowing an answer may not be enough to activate a lock or terminal.
Start by identifying what the puzzle is asking for
Pause at the obstacle and work out what kind of answer it needs: a code, date, sequence, object placement, signal, or mechanism. Search the room and adjoining spaces for details that match that kind of answer. This is a useful first pass, not a guarantee that every clue is nearby; some puzzles require you to connect information from different sources.

That connected approach fits the way the game’s puzzles were designed. Writer and director Jon McKellan said puzzles were developed alongside the story and grounded in the world and its inhabitants, rather than added as a separate layer. They can reveal information as well as open the way forward. PlayStation’s developer post explains the design approach.
Read documents for details you can combine
Read notes and documents closely instead of treating them as background. Look for names, dates, numbers, instructions, and relationships between people or places. Keep a brief note of details that seem relevant; a clue may make sense only when compared with another document or something visible in the environment.

A PC Gamer review describes codes assembled from nearby letters and documents, while noting that later puzzles can ask for more inference. If the first plausible interpretation does not work, revisit the evidence and test how separate details fit together rather than repeatedly entering the same answer.
Use the CRTV to find and inspect signals
The CRTV serves more than one purpose: it can help Simon scout for threats, receive signals from around town, and guide him through challenges. The February developer interview describes how first-person exploration encourages close attention to environmental details, with the CRTV acting as a tool for both story and puzzle-solving. Search for a signal, then study what it shows
Raise and tune the CRTV when you enter a new area or approach a puzzle. If a signal seems relevant, store it and inspect its short visual sequence carefully. A brief image may show a destination, poster, or other detail in the environment that helps you decide where to look next.

Align signals when prompted
Some transmissions require signal alignment. Follow the on-screen tuning prompt, matching the colored shapes with their corresponding outlines and lines. According to VICE’s CRTV guide, correct alignment lets you store the signal for a hint.
Check clue prerequisites before retrying a lock
If a code or control does not work even though the answer seems right, look for the related note, clue, or key item and make sure it has actually been collected. A published Townfall walkthrough reports that some locks and terminals require a specific clue item, even when a player already knows the answer.
Before trying again, check your inventory and revisit the nearby documents and objects. The missing step may be acquiring the required clue, not solving the code differently.

When you are still stuck, widen the search
- Recheck adjoining spaces for a detail that matches the answer type: a number, date, order, image, or object.
- Compare documents with what you can see in the room instead of relying on a single isolated clue.
- Scan the area with the CRTV and review any stored signal for a visual detail you may have overlooked.
- Return to the puzzle after collecting relevant notes or items, then try the answer again.
These are general, spoiler-light tips based on the game’s official descriptions and published post-launch coverage; they do not provide a verified solution for every individual puzzle.
Release platforms and edition note
Silent Hill: Townfall released on September 24, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, according to Konami’s US announcement. That announcement said physical versions were offered only for PS5 pre-order. It does not establish current retail stock or availability, so check a seller’s listing before assuming a physical copy can still be purchased.
