Some prominent Sims creators left EA’s Creator Network in October 2025 after EA announced a proposed $55 billion sale to a consortium that included Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). That acquisition closed on August 4, 2026. But leaving a formal relationship with EA is not the same as quitting The Sims: creators have described different boundaries around new releases, existing series and the game itself, and there is no single response shared by the whole community.
What changed—and when?
On September 29, 2025, EA announced an agreement to be acquired by PIF, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners for an announced transaction value of $55 billion. The deal was then subject to approvals. On October 23, Sims Community reported that creators including lilsimsie, James Turner and Plumbella said they were leaving the EA Creator Network amid the announcement. Their stated concerns were about the prospective owners’ values and what the change might mean for The Sims—not proof that the game had already changed. EA’s original transaction announcement and the October 2025 community report describe those developments.

The ownership status is no longer prospective: EA announced that the acquisition closed on August 4, 2026. The Associated Press also reported the closing and identified the buyers. EA’s closing announcement is the primary source for the current status.
Leaving EA’s network is not the same as leaving The Sims
The Creator Network is a professional relationship with EA; The Sims is also a game, a creative outlet and, for some creators, the foundation of an established channel and audience. A creator can end a formal affiliation without necessarily stopping all Sims content. Conversely, a creator can decide that covering new releases no longer fits their boundary while continuing to play or discuss older games.

- Customize your Sims’ looks and their home with new family fashion and build items. Give the kids’ bedrooms extra personality, remodel the kitchen to feel homier, and let your Sims express their sporty or artistic sides with new outfits.
In additional October 2025 reporting, Sims Community described one creator considering finishing existing series, avoiding new packs or using older Sims games. That was an individual’s view at the time, not a community-wide plan or a verified statement of their current activity. The article is useful for understanding the range of responses, but not as a current membership directory. Sims Community’s October 27 report documents those responses.
What creators may be weighing
Where to draw the ethical boundary
For creators who left, the decision was tied to their stated concerns about the incoming owners and the values they associate with The Sims. That judgment belongs to each creator. The acquisition establishes a change in ownership; on its own, it does not establish future changes to the game’s content, representation, editorial control, staffing or creator policies.

EA’s assurances are also company statements, not independent confirmation of future outcomes. In October 2025, The Sims team said its mission and values remained the same. In January 2026, EA said the team’s creative control and stated values had not changed, and described planned Sims experiences. EA also framed Project Rene as a separate, social, mobile-first life-simulation game rather than a successor to The Sims 4. Those statements explain the company’s position, but cannot settle creators’ differing views of the ownership change. The Sims team’s October statement and EA’s January 2026 update set out that position.
What happens to access and opportunities
EA describes The Sims Creator Program as part of its broader EA Creator Network. Its program materials list opportunities such as early access, livestreams, content spotlights, campaigns, grants and educational resources. Opportunities may be paid or unpaid; membership does not automatically mean a creator is paid or commissioned. Leaving can mean giving up access to some opportunities, but the available information does not establish what any individual creator earned or lost.

Support-A-Creator is optional and separate from simply making Sims content. Participating creators can receive commissions on eligible purchases made using their code, under the program’s terms. Not every creator participates or earns a commission. EA says creators may give honest feedback, including criticism, within its guidelines; leaving the network is not the only way to criticize the game. EA’s Creator Network information and The Sims Creator Program FAQ explain the program mechanics.
Whether to keep making Sims content
Long-running saves, ongoing series and a channel’s identity can make an all-or-nothing choice difficult. Creators may have work already in progress or audiences who come specifically for Sims videos. Those considerations help explain why ending a formal relationship, stopping new-pack coverage and quitting the franchise are distinct decisions. They should not be treated as evidence that any named creator is financially dependent on Sims content; the available reporting does not quantify creators’ income or establish their current plans.

Can creators still make Sims videos after leaving?
Leaving the Creator Network does not, by itself, mean a creator must stop making Sims content. EA’s program is an affiliation and opportunity framework, while EA separately publishes rules for use of its content. Creators should follow the current policy, avoid implying that they remain affiliated or endorsed when they do not, and account for other rights involved in a video, including licensed music. Third-party sponsorships can have additional restrictions when Sims gameplay, characters, branding or other EA material appear; specific campaigns may require permission. Disclosure obligations can also depend on the creator’s relationship, platform and jurisdiction. EA’s content policy provides its rules, but is not a substitute for checking applicable local requirements.

The acquisition is complete, but the fact of a change in ownership does not establish what future Sims releases or policies will contain. EA has publicly said its stated values and the Sims team’s creative control remain unchanged, and has outlined future plans. Those are EA’s claims about its direction; the available statements do not prove what every future decision will be. Creators’ concerns are likewise their reasons for making personal choices, not evidence that a particular change has already happened.

There is no verified, current public roster establishing which creators remain in or have left every EA program, and individual plans reported in October 2025 may have changed. The clearest way to understand the split is to distinguish the choices: formal network membership, access to EA opportunities or codes, coverage of new releases, ongoing Sims work, and whether to leave the franchise altogether. Different creators can draw those lines differently.
