He wants the report and its management recommendations shared with key stakeholders, and has called for the current Board to step aside and reapply through an independent appointment process. NZC chief executive Geoff Allott says he explained the confidentiality of the process and agreed to improve communication and engagement.
Why is Richard Hadlee criticizing NZ Cricket?
In a report published October 2, 2026, former New Zealand cricketer and former NZC Board member Hadlee said he was disappointed by the lack of transparency around significant Board decisions. He pointed to a Deloitte review concerning the future of domestic T20 cricket as his main example.
Hadlee said he had contributed to consultation and expected the report to be shared with participants. The report also says he told the outlet that Major Associations (MAs) and District Associations (DAs) had not seen it. Those are Hadlee’s reported claims; the consultation records and any documented commitment to circulate the report are not available in the accessible coverage.
What does Hadlee want NZC to do?
Hadlee proposed two steps. He wants NZC to release the Deloitte report and its supporting management recommendations to key stakeholders, including MAs, DAs and Life Members. He also believes the current Board should step aside and reapply through what he described as a genuinely independent appointment process, rather than one run by the MAs.

These are Hadlee’s requests, not changes NZC is reported to have accepted. The accessible reporting does not include a formal Board response to his proposed appointment process.
How has NZC responded?
NZC chief executive Geoff Allott said he explained the confidential nature of the Deloitte process and listened to Hadlee’s concerns. He also said he had agreed to increase communication and engagement. Allott did not agree with Hadlee on everything, and the reported account describes their meeting as open and honest, with both men concerned about the game’s future.

Allott’s comments do not establish that NZC will release the report or adopt Hadlee’s governance proposal. The accessible coverage does not set out the precise basis or terms for keeping the Deloitte process confidential, or what stakeholders have formally been told.
What is known about the Deloitte report’s findings?
The accessible reporting does not disclose the report’s findings, recommendations or supporting management advice. It is therefore not possible to say what changes Deloitte proposed for domestic T20 cricket, or whether the report endorsed a particular structure or competition format. Hadlee’s call for publication concerns access to the document; it is not evidence of what the document contains.
