The 60-second answer
sis6306v.dll is not a modern Visual C++ runtime, DirectX component, or general Windows library. It is the SiS 530/620 Framebuffer Display Driver, a 32-bit component of the SiS (R) 530/620 Miniport Driver for Windows 2000, made by Silicon Integrated Systems Corporation.

The safest fix is to determine whether the computer still has SiS 530/620-era graphics hardware, then reinstall the complete matching display-driver package. Do not download only the DLL and copy it into System32. The DLL works with an INF file, a miniport .sys driver, supporting files, and the correct operating-system and hardware configuration.
On Windows 10 or Windows 11, the error usually indicates one of three things:

- Pine PT 5968 Graphics Card
- P/N: SIS 6326
- Model: 5968
- Capacity: 8MB
- Connector Type: 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15), Interface: VGA
- An old computer still has legacy SiS graphics and its driver is damaged or incomplete.
- A restored installation, old installer, or compatibility component is requesting a file that was removed.
- The computer no longer uses SiS hardware, but an obsolete startup item or application still references the driver.
What sis6306v.dll belongs to
The file name identifies a SiS graphics-driver component. Its embedded description is SiS 530/620 Framebuffer Display Driver, and it belongs to the SiS (R) 530/620 Miniport Driver for Windows 2000.
The associated hardware is from the SiS 530/620 generation of integrated graphics. These systems are commonly encountered in Windows 2000 or Windows XP-era computers, restored legacy images, old industrial systems, and virtualized or repurposed machines.
Historical file records commonly identify this as a 32-bit Win32 binary. Some inventories report version 5.12.01.1080 and a size of 150,144 bytes; those values are identification clues, not a guarantee that every legitimate copy has exactly the same metadata.

A similarly named file from a SiS 630, 730, or another graphics branch is not automatically interchangeable.
Why the error appears
The wording depends on the executable making the request and the point at which loading fails. The most common causes are:
The display driver is incomplete
A driver cleanup, failed upgrade, system restore, or interrupted installation may remove the DLL while leaving the driver reference behind. The same problem can occur when only part of an old driver package is restored from backup.
Antivirus software quarantined the file
A legitimate legacy driver may be unsigned by current standards or may trigger a reputation warning because of its age. That does not prove the file is malicious, but quarantine history should be checked before restoring anything.

An old Windows image was restored
A disk image made on a computer with SiS hardware may be running on different hardware. Windows or an old startup component can continue looking for the original driver even though the adapter is gone.
Old motherboard software was removed
Uninstalling chipset utilities, graphics packages, or vendor recovery software can leave a service, scheduled task, installer, or startup entry that still requests sis6306v.dll.
Windows files or the disk are damaged
If other Windows components also fail, the DLL message may be part of broader corruption. SFC and DISM can repair protected Windows components, but they cannot manufacture a third-party SiS driver package that is not present in the Windows component store.

Fix 1: Check whether SiS graphics hardware is still installed
Do this before downloading anything.
In Device Manager
- Press Windows key + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Look for an entry containing SiS, SiS 530, SiS 620, or an unknown display adapter.
- Also check Other devices for Video Controller, Display Controller, or an item with a yellow warning icon.
- Double-click the suspected adapter.
- Open the Details tab.
- Select Hardware Ids from the Property list.
- Copy the displayed values, especially entries beginning with
PCIVEN_1039.
1039 is the vendor identifier associated with SiS. The device ID must still match the actual graphics adapter. Do not select a driver merely because its file names look similar.
If Display adapters shows modern Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA hardware and there is no SiS device or unknown display controller, skip to the stale-reference section below. Forcing a Windows 2000-era display DLL into a current graphics stack is not a repair.
Check the error’s caller
The application name in the message is important. If the error appears only when starting an old installer or utility, that program may contain the stale reference. If it appears during startup, the caller may be a service, scheduled task, driver installer, or compatibility component.
Record whether the error occurs:
- During boot or sign-in
- When opening a particular program
- When installing a driver
- Only after connecting a particular device
- After antivirus detection or cleanup
This determines whether you need a driver repair or an obsolete-reference cleanup.

A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Fix 2: Reinstall the complete SiS display-driver package
This is the most appropriate repair when Device Manager identifies SiS 530/620 hardware.
Find the correct package
Use this order:
- Check the computer manufacturer’s recovery partition, recovery media, or support package.
- Check the motherboard manufacturer’s archived driver downloads.
- Use the hardware ID to search the Microsoft Update Catalog.
- If the computer is still running Windows 2000 or Windows XP, use a package specifically intended for that operating system.
- If the system is Windows 10 or Windows 11, verify whether the old adapter is actually supported before attempting installation.
Microsoft’s catalog includes historical x86 SiS video-driver packages for Windows 2000. A catalog result related to SiS hardware does not by itself prove that it contains this exact DLL, so match the hardware ID and operating-system target first.
Do not substitute a SiS 630 or SiS 730 package simply because it contains a similar file name. The display branch, INF instructions, and companion miniport driver may differ.
Install the package
The exact installer screens vary, but the safe sequence is:
- Create a restore point if Windows offers the option.
- Close running programs.
- Run the manufacturer’s driver installer as an administrator.
- If Windows displays a compatibility warning, stop and verify that the package is intended for the installed Windows version.
- Allow the installer to place the INF, miniport driver, DLLs, and catalog files together.
- Restart the computer even if the installer does not require it.
- Open Device Manager again.
- Confirm that the adapter appears without a yellow warning icon.
- Open Properties > General and check the Device status message.
- Test the program or startup action that produced the error.
A successful repair normally removes the missing-file message and leaves the adapter recognized by Device Manager. It does not require manually placing a DLL in an application folder.

When the manual process requires comparing several old packages and checking hardware IDs one by one, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for the relevant driver problem; its free scan shows what it finds, while the full version performs the driver installation. It is optional, and the manufacturer or Microsoft package remains the preferred source for this specific legacy hardware.
If the installation fails
If the installer refuses to run:
- Right-click the installer and select Properties.
- Open Compatibility.
- Try Run this program in compatibility mode only when the package documentation identifies an older Windows release.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Run the installer again.
- If it still fails, extract the package if the installer supports extraction, then use the INF manually:
- Open Device Manager.
- Right-click the SiS adapter.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
- Select the extracted driver folder.
- Enable Include subfolders.
- Select Next.
Do not disable driver-security protections broadly just to force an unknown package into Windows. If the package is designed only for Windows 2000, the correct solution may be to run the legacy system in an isolated environment rather than install its display driver on a current Windows release.
Fix 3: Check Windows Update and the Microsoft Update Catalog
Windows Update may provide a compatible driver for older hardware, although current Windows versions may not offer one for SiS 530/620 devices.
Check Windows Update
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Open Advanced options.
- Select Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if that category appears.
- Install a SiS display driver only if the hardware ID and operating-system target match.
- Restart Windows.
Do not install every optional driver blindly. If no relevant driver appears, Windows Update has not solved the hardware problem.
Use the catalog by hardware ID
- Open the Microsoft Update Catalog.
- Search for the hardware ID copied from Device Manager.
- Review the product name, architecture, and operating-system target.
- Download a matching package.
- Follow Microsoft’s Update Catalog download procedure.
- Install the complete package or apply the matching INF through Device Manager.
- Restart and check Device Manager.
The sis6306v.dll family is associated with 32-bit, Windows 2000-era driver records. Do not choose an x64 package simply because a download page labels it that way.
Fix 4: Repair Windows component corruption with DISM and SFC
Use this step when the missing-DLL message is accompanied by broader symptoms, such as Windows services failing, damaged built-in applications, repeated repair errors, or unexplained system-file warnings.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Press Start.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected Windows system files. Their results have different meanings:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations: protected Windows files appear intact.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them: restart and test again.
- Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them: review the CBS log and repair Windows further.
- DISM reports that source files cannot be found: the component source or Windows installation may not be available.
These commands will not recreate a missing SiS driver package if that package is not part of the installed Windows image.
If you are repeatedly running repair commands without knowing whether the problem is Windows corruption or an old third-party driver, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the broader Windows problems involved; its free scan shows what it detects, while repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and DISM and SFC remain the built-in Microsoft repair path.
Fix 5: Check antivirus quarantine safely
If the error began after a security scan:
- Open your antivirus application.
- Open Quarantine, Detection history, or Protection history.
- Search for
sis6306v.dll. - Note the original path and the detection name.
- Do not restore the file immediately.
- Confirm that the driver package came from the computer manufacturer, motherboard manufacturer, Microsoft Update Catalog, or trusted original media.
- Scan the complete installer, not only the DLL.
- If the package is trusted and the detection appears to be a reputation or age warning, restore through the antivirus interface.
- Reinstall the complete driver package afterward.
- If the source is unknown, leave the file quarantined and obtain a trusted package instead.
Check the DLL’s path after installation. A driver copy in a normal Windows driver location or a package directory is more plausible than one appearing under a temporary download folder. If the file has no trusted origin, run a full antivirus scan and investigate the parent installer.
Fix 6: Remove a stale reference when SiS hardware is gone
If Device Manager shows no SiS adapter and the computer uses different graphics hardware, reinstalling sis6306v.dll may create a new problem rather than solve the old one.

- Write down the executable named in the error, if shown.
- Open Event Viewer by pressing Windows key + X, then selecting Event Viewer.
- Review Windows Logs > Application and Windows Logs > System around the time of the error.
- Look for the executable, service, driver, or installer that requested the DLL.
- Check Settings > Apps > Installed apps for the related old graphics utility or motherboard software.
- Use its Uninstall, Repair, or Modify option.
If the message appears at startup, inspect startup entries:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
- Open Startup apps.
- Disable an entry only when its publisher and purpose clearly identify it as obsolete SiS or motherboard software.
- Restart and check whether the message returns.
For a deeper startup investigation, Microsoft Sysinternals Autoruns can show services, scheduled tasks, drivers, and run entries. Remove an item only after confirming what owns it. Do not delete random registry values or driver files to suppress an error.
If the caller belongs to a program you still use, repair or uninstall that program. If it is an old installer that you no longer need, remove the installer and its startup entry. On a current Windows system, removing the stale reference is usually safer than forcing an old display DLL into System32.
Why copying the DLL is not a real repair
Downloading an isolated DLL can fail for several reasons:
Recommended Free Tools
- The file may contain malware or an unwanted modification.
- It may be the wrong version or architecture.
- It may belong to a different SiS chipset.
- The companion INF and miniport
.sysfile may still be missing. - Windows driver-store records may remain damaged.
- The application may be calling the DLL from a different path.
- A stale startup reference may continue producing the same error.
Historical reports place this file in locations such as C:WindowsSystem32 and the Windows 2000/XP DLL cache. Those observations do not mean that a downloaded copy should be copied into System32, SysWOW64, or an application directory.
Use the complete driver package from the original manufacturer, trusted recovery media, or the Microsoft Update Catalog instead. Never use a random DLL download sites page as the repair source.
Why regsvr32 usually does nothing
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general missing-DLL repair command.
A display-driver DLL is normally installed as part of a driver stack, not repaired by registering it. Running:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →regsvr32 sis6306v.dll
may produce an error stating that the entry point was not found, or it may appear to succeed without restoring the driver. Do not use it unless the specific software documentation says that the DLL is a self-registering component and identifies the correct architecture.
Do Windows Features help?
Usually not. Windows Features controls optional components such as .NET Framework features, legacy media components, and virtualization functions. sis6306v.dll is a legacy SiS display-driver file, not a Windows feature.
You can check optional components if the error clearly belongs to an old application that requires a documented Windows feature:
Best Value
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Optional features.
- Review installed components.
- Install only a feature required by the application.
Do not expect enabling a random feature to restore the SiS driver.
If the error persists after reinstalling
Work through these checks:
- Confirm the hardware ID again in Device Manager.
- Confirm that the package matches the adapter, Windows release, and architecture.
- Check whether Device Manager reports a separate error code.
- Review Event Viewer at the exact time of failure.
- Identify the executable or service producing the message.
- Check antivirus history and the file path.
- Remove duplicate or obsolete SiS driver packages only through the manufacturer’s installer or documented Device Manager procedures.
- Run DISM and SFC if other Windows components are also failing.
- Test in a clean boot environment if the error occurs only during startup.
- If the application is very old, run it in a controlled legacy environment rather than loading its Windows 2000 driver into Windows 11.
A missing file during a driver installation is different from a program that requests the file after installation. The first points to a damaged package; the second may point to a stale application or startup entry.
FAQ
Is sis6306v.dll a Windows system file?
It is a real historical driver component, but it is not a normal current Windows 10 or Windows 11 dependency. It was associated with SiS 530/620 graphics and Windows 2000-era driver packages.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Historical driver records identify it as a 32-bit Win32/x86 file. Do not use a 64-bit label from an unverified download page as proof of compatibility.
Can I download just sis6306v.dll?
No. Obtain the complete, matching driver package instead. The DLL depends on the correct INF, miniport driver, supporting files, and hardware configuration.
Recommended Free Tools
Why does a modern Windows 11 computer request it?
The computer may have been upgraded from an old image, may contain a legacy installer, or may have an obsolete startup entry. It may also be running old hardware in a compatibility setup. Modern graphics hardware normally does not need this file.
Should I delete sis6306v.dll?
Do not delete it before identifying its caller. If the computer still has SiS hardware, deletion can worsen the driver problem. If the hardware is gone, remove the obsolete software or startup reference that requests it.
Is regsvr32 the fix?
Normally no. This is a driver component, not a DLL that should generally be registered manually.
Will SFC restore it?
Only if the file belongs to the Windows image being repaired. SFC does not automatically retrieve a missing third-party SiS driver package.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat if antivirus quarantined it?
