Could Skyblivion and Oblivion Remastered launch in the same year?
Yes, it remains possible, but it is not a confirmed release-day showdown. Bethesda’s official remaster is already available, while Skyblivion has a 2026 target and no announced date in the latest reporting cited here. That means the projects could overlap in the calendar year, not that Skyblivion is certain to release before year-end or that the two will launch together.
The distinction matters: Skyblivion is a volunteer fan remake, while Oblivion Remastered is Bethesda’s official modernization of the 2006 game. They revisit the same RPG through different projects and technical foundations.
What is Skyblivion?
Skyblivion is TESRenewal’s fan-made recreation of Oblivion in the Skyrim Special Edition engine. The project’s press kit describes a free, PC-based remake of the pre-DLC mainland, its systems, and its quests. The team also advertises “over 223 quests”; that is a project feature claim, not an independently audited count.
In its December 3, 2025 release-window announcement, the team said the world map was “100% complete” and that all quest dungeons had been remade. Those are the team’s dated status claims, not an independent assessment of how much work remains in October 2026.
Why doesn’t Skyblivion have a release date yet?
The team shifted its anticipated release window from 2025 to 2026, saying it wanted time to deliver a polished, stable, complete experience. Its December 2025 update identified remaining work including Imperial City assets and interiors, navmesh work across locations, final quest implementation and debugging, polish, balancing, testing, and bug fixing.

That list explains the delay as the team described it at the time; it should not be read as a current task-by-task progress report. On September 15, 2026, PC Gamer reported that the project still had no specific release date. It also noted that the volunteer team was seeking communications help for work such as trailers, gameplay captures, and developer interviews. That points to promotional preparation, not proof that development is finished or launch is imminent.
