Its beta kit gives the Horde path a reported 10% run-speed bonus and every path a 10-second downward glide, while the Alliance path trades movement emphasis for 100% health and mana regeneration. Those tools can make travel or recovery smoother, but no measured route comparison shows how quickly Skyborne reaches level 60—or whether it beats Human, Orc, Undead, Dwarf, Night Elf, Tauren or Troll. The race begins with a dedicated level 1–12 campaign on Zephras Isle, supports both factions, and is tied to paid Forever editions whose prices and availability can change.
Skyborne in one minute
Skyborne is Forever’s new playable race. Characters begin on Zephras Isle, a floating island with its own opening route covering levels 1 through 12. The race is split between the Windshaper Horde and the High Order Alliance, so choosing Skyborne also determines which faction-specific racial effect and class options you receive.

| Question | What is established |
|---|---|
| Can Skyborne play both factions? | Yes. Skyborne has a Windshaper Horde path and a High Order Alliance path. |
| Where does it start? | Zephras Isle, with a dedicated level 1–12 opening zone. |
| Is it the fastest leveling race? | No definitive ranking exists. Live racial values and measured route times are not available. |
| What is its clearest advantage? | Short-duration gliding, plus reported run speed on the Horde path. |
| What is the Alliance alternative? | Reportedly 100% health and mana regeneration through Read Ley Line. |
The practical conclusion is that Skyborne changes how movement and downtime feel; it does not yet provide a verified total-time advantage. A faster character sheet stat cannot compensate for a slower quest route, unfamiliar objectives, weak class damage or extra travel between hubs.
Skyborne beta racials and what they do
The following figures come from a beta guide and are explicitly subject to change. Blizzard has not published final, exact Forever racial values, so treat these as a snapshot rather than a launch guarantee.
#1 Best Overall
- World of Warcraft Game
- Includes Expansion Packs: The Burnings Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria
- 30 days of free game time included
- Includes levels 1 through 90
- Subscription, Internet connection, and Battle.net registration required
| Racial | Path | Reported beta effect | Leveling implication |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walk on Air | Skyborne | Glide downward for 10 seconds. | Can shorten some descents and reduce the friction of moving across vertical terrain. The effect is a glide, not confirmed flight, and its cooldown or restrictions are not stated. |
| Skysight | Windshaper Horde | +10% run speed. | Improves ordinary ground travel and may reduce time between objectives. It does not establish a 10% reduction in total leveling time. |
| Read Ley Line | High Order Alliance | +100% health and mana regeneration. | May reduce eating and drinking pauses, particularly for classes that frequently spend health or mana between pulls. |
| Wind Blessed | Skyborne | +1% melee, ranged and spell haste. | A small, broad combat benefit that can help every listed Skyborne class, but no beta test converts it into a measured leveling-time gain. |
| Elemental Insight | Skyborne | +5% damage against elementals. | Useful only when the target is an elemental. Its value depends on how many elementals appear in the route you choose. |
Two cautions matter when reading that table. First, a racial effect can be changed before or after launch. Second, an effect that looks large in isolation does not map directly to a leveling percentage. A run-speed bonus affects travel segments; regeneration affects downtime; neither automatically speeds quest acceptance, objective completion, dungeon queues or backtracking.
Faction paths, classes and role choices
Windshaper Horde
Horde Skyborne receives the reported Skysight movement bonus. The beta class list gives this path access to Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid and Shaman. If your priority is reducing overland travel, this is the Skyborne configuration with the strongest stated movement case.
High Order Alliance
Alliance Skyborne instead receives the reported Read Ley Line regeneration effect. The listed classes are Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid and Mage. For a caster or any build that repeatedly pauses to restore resources, faster regeneration may produce a smoother chain of pulls even when the character is not moving faster.
Shared class options
Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid are shared by both factions. Shaman is listed as Horde-only, while Mage is listed as Alliance-only. That makes class intent a first-order decision: a player who wants a Skyborne Shaman cannot choose the Alliance path, and a player who wants a Skyborne Mage cannot choose the Horde path.
Rank #2
- Warcraft III Battle Chest
Forever also changes the broader class-and-race landscape. The race reference highlights Forsaken Paladin and Dwarf Shaman as headline combinations, so a race decision is not only a travel calculation. If a returning race enables the exact class, faction or role fantasy you want, that benefit may matter more than a provisional movement advantage.
How much does Skyborne mobility actually help?
The 10-second glide
Walk on Air is most valuable when the world forces you to descend, cross broken terrain or approach an objective from above. A controlled downward glide can remove awkward paths and make a destination easier to reach. It cannot be treated as unrestricted flight: the confirmed description says only that the character glides downward for 10 seconds. No final cooldown, activation rule, minimum height or terrain interaction has been published.
The Horde run-speed effect
Skysight is the clearest travel advantage in the current numbers. A reported 10% run-speed increase applies to ordinary movement, so it can influence every outdoor trip that would otherwise be made on foot. The gain is situational: it matters most on long stretches between quest hubs and least when objectives are tightly packed, when you are mounted, or when combat and objective interaction dominate the route.
Why movement is not a leveling stopwatch
Total leveling time includes more than running. It includes reading or accepting quests, killing targets, collecting items, waiting for spawns, traveling to vendors, recovering resources, learning abilities, entering instances and correcting mistakes. A player who knows a returning race’s opening route may finish sooner than a first-time Skyborne player despite having no movement racial at all. The Skyborne island is new, and no veteran has had years to memorize its fastest sequence.
Regeneration, haste and elemental damage
Alliance regeneration
Read Ley Line is a downtime tool. The beta description gives +100% health and mana regeneration, which can reduce the number of recovery pauses after fights. Its value varies by class, level, gear, pull size and spell usage. A melee character who rarely loses health may gain less than a mana-dependent caster; a player who already eats or drinks only occasionally may see little change.
Wind Blessed haste
Wind Blessed reports +1% melee, ranged and spell haste. Because it covers all three damage categories, it does not force a particular combat role. However, one percent haste is not equivalent to one percent faster leveling. It may shorten some encounters, while quest travel, positioning and downtime remain unchanged.
Elemental Insight
Elemental Insight reports +5% damage against elementals. That is a conditional racial, not a universal damage increase. Its contribution depends on the proportion of elementals in your chosen quests and whether those encounters are significant enough to affect the route. Against non-elemental targets it supplies no stated bonus.
Skyborne versus returning races
Human, Orc, Undead, Dwarf, Night Elf, Tauren and Troll remain the relevant comparison set for players deciding whether a new character should use the new race. The available information does not provide a controlled time trial, final racial spreadsheet or equivalent route analysis for those races. It does establish a useful qualitative contrast:
Rank #4
- Enter a world divided
- Recruit Allied races
- Plunder Uncharted islands
- Storm the warfronts
- Includes level 110 character Boost
| Choice | Movement and travel | Downtime utility | Class and faction consideration | Route familiarity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skyborne Horde | 10-second downward glide; reported +10% run speed. | Shared +1% melee, ranged and spell haste; +5% elemental damage. | Windshaper Horde; Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid and Shaman listed. | New Zephras Isle route, so optimal sequencing is still being learned. |
| Skyborne Alliance | 10-second downward glide. | Reported +100% health and mana regeneration; shared haste and elemental effects. | High Order Alliance; Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid and Mage listed. | New Zephras Isle route, with the same route-learning uncertainty. |
| Returning races | No directly comparable Skyborne movement figure is established here. | Choose according to each race’s established identity and the final Forever rules. | Forever changes class access; combinations such as Forsaken Paladin and Dwarf Shaman are highlighted. | Updated openings retain familiar identities, giving experienced players a knowledge advantage. |
This is why a definitive “fastest race” list would overstate the evidence. Skyborne has measurable-looking beta effects, but the opposing side of the comparison needs the same treatment: identical class, level, gear, route, server conditions and live values. Without that control, a ranking would be speculation.
A practical leveling plan for Skyborne
- Choose your faction from your role goal. Pick Windshaper Horde if the listed Shaman option or the reported 10% run speed is central to your plan. Pick High Order Alliance if you need Mage access or prefer the reported regeneration effect.
- Confirm the edition before paying. Access is reported with the Skyborne Heroic Pack for $29.99, the Epic Pack for $59.99 or the Warcraft Forever Collection for $79.99. Prices and availability are volatile, so verify the current store listing and what each edition includes before checkout.
- Plan for the island as a new route. Zephras Isle covers levels 1–12. Do not assume an old race guide’s objective order, vendor stop or travel shortcut applies to it.
- Exploit movement without overvaluing it. Use Walk on Air for meaningful vertical shortcuts rather than activating it whenever available. On Horde, let Skysight reduce long ground transfers, but keep quest density and objective order as the primary routing criteria.
- Match pulls to your recovery profile. Alliance characters with Read Ley Line can test whether larger chains reduce total downtime. Horde characters should not copy that expectation; their advantage is movement, not the reported regeneration effect.
- Record your own checkpoints. Note the time you leave level 1, reach level 12 and enter the next zone, along with deaths, disconnected travel and group waits. These checkpoints make later route improvements meaningful without pretending to be a controlled server-wide benchmark.
- Re-evaluate after live updates. If Blizzard changes a racial value, class availability or the island’s quests, discard beta assumptions and rebuild the route from the current rules.
Is the movement advantage worth the paid edition?
The reported access requirements make Skyborne a purchase decision, not merely an in-game optimization. The listed prices are:
| Edition | Reported price | What the evidence establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Skyborne Heroic Pack | $29.99 | Reported to provide Skyborne access. |
| Epic Pack | $59.99 | Reported to provide Skyborne access; additional edition contents are not established here. |
| Warcraft Forever Collection | $79.99 | Reported to provide Skyborne access; additional edition contents are not established here. |
Those are reported prices, not a permanent guarantee. Regional pricing, taxes, promotions and edition contents can change. If your only reason to buy is to reach maximum level faster, the evidence is insufficient to justify that premium: no measured comparison shows that the 10% Horde run-speed effect repays any purchase cost in saved playtime. The purchase is easier to justify when you also want the new starting zone, the Skyborne appearance and lore, or a class-and-faction combination unavailable to your preferred returning race.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWho should choose each path?
Choose Skyborne Horde when
- You value open-world travel and want to test the reported +10% run-speed effect.
- You want the listed Shaman option.
- You enjoy learning a new level 1–12 route rather than relying on a memorized opening.
- You frequently cross open terrain where ground travel is a meaningful part of your sessions.
Choose Skyborne Alliance when
- You want the listed Mage option.
- Your class spends enough health or mana that the reported +100% regeneration could reduce recovery pauses.
- You prefer smoother sustained pulls over a movement-focused racial.
- You still want the glide and Skyborne’s shared haste and elemental effects.
Choose a returning race when
- You already know its opening route and can execute it cleanly.
- Your preferred class, faction or role combination is not available on the Skyborne path you want.
- You value a familiar identity more than unverified speed potential.
- You do not want to buy a paid edition solely to access a beta racial package.
What would be needed to call Skyborne the fastest?
A credible ranking would require final racial tooltips, live class availability, identical characters and a measured route for each comparison race. The tests would need to separate travel time, combat time, regeneration downtime, deaths, loading screens and group waits. They would also need to run the same route standard—either each race’s optimized home route or a common neutral route—because a new island and a familiar capital-area opening do not present the same learning conditions.
Best Value
- Master the Path of the Monk - Learn the mystic powers of the Monk, World of Warcraft's newest playable class. Destroy foes with the Windwalker's devastating attacks, replenish allies with the Mistweaver's spiritual energies, and shrug off enormous damage with the Brewmaster's unyielding strength.
- Battle to level 90 - Ascend to new heights of power as you explore the verdant reaches of the Jade Forest, war with the terrible Yaungol on Kun-Lai Summit, and unlock the secrets of the Mogu'shan Vaults.
- Unleash the Mighty Pandaren - Set out as a member of the enigmatic Pandaren -- World of Warcraft's first neutral race -- and join the ranks of either the Horde or Alliance as you enter the conflict brewing on Pandaria's shores.
- Discover a Lost Continent - Explore the ancient kingdoms of Pandaria and mount your defense against a newly awakened evil stirring in the continent's dark corners.
Until those measurements exist, use “fastest” in a narrower sense. Horde Skyborne is currently the race with the clearest reported movement edge. Alliance Skyborne is the race with the clearest reported regeneration edge. Neither statement proves the shortest journey to the level cap.
Current status and caveats
All Skyborne figures above are beta information and may change. Blizzard has not published exact Forever racial values, and early speed-leveling advice is explicitly provisional because the island route has not been fully memorized by veteran players. Pack prices and availability are also time-sensitive.
Blizzard said, “We have no plans to add races from WoW’s expansions at this time,” in a statement reported by TechRadar on October 11, 2026. That makes Skyborne the relevant new-race comparison for the current Forever ruleset, but it does not turn provisional numbers into a permanent balance promise.

Bottom line: Skyborne is a compelling mobility-and-route choice, not a confirmed leveling shortcut. Pick Horde for the reported run-speed emphasis, Alliance for regeneration and Mage access, or a returning race when route familiarity and class identity matter more than beta advantages.
