Skyrim Switch 2 Update 1.2 Adds 60 Hz Mode and a Long List of Fixes

Skyrim’s Switch 2 update 1.2 adds 60 Hz and Visuals/Performance priorities, plus fixes for crashes, frame drops, visuals, and controls—but no 60 fps lock is promised.

Bethesda’s update 1.2 for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 adds a 60 Hz display mode with “Prioritize Visuals” and “Prioritize Performance” options, alongside fixes for crashes, frame-rate drops, visuals, controls, and other issues. There’s an important qualification: Bethesda says Visuals mode is locked to 30 Hz, but its notes do not promise that Performance mode maintains 60 fps.

What the 60 Hz mode does—and what Bethesda does not promise

Bethesda Game Studios says update 1.2 adds a 60 Hz mode under Display settings, where players can choose “Prioritize Visuals” or “Prioritize Performance.” The notes specifically say Prioritize Visuals is locked at 30 Hz for smoother gameplay. They do not state that Prioritize Performance is locked to, or consistently sustains, 60 fps. In other words, the update adds a 60 Hz option; it is not an official guarantee of a steady 60 fps in every scene. Bethesda’s update 1.2 notes do not quantify resolution or image-quality differences between the two priorities.

To try the setting, open the game’s Display settings and select either “Prioritize Visuals” or “Prioritize Performance.” Choose based on whether you prefer the explicitly 30 Hz Visuals mode or want to prioritize performance; the patch notes do not provide measured frame-rate results for the latter.

Update 1.2’s fixes, by category

The patch notes name specific issues rather than claiming that every crash, slowdown, or control problem is fixed. Examples include:

The input-latency fix was in an earlier update

Bethesda Support says an update on December 19, 2025 fixed an issue that caused input latency for Skyrim players on Switch 2. That fix predates update 1.2; it should not be attributed to the 60 Hz update. Bethesda’s support note describes the earlier fix here.

Which Switch version gets the enhancements?

The Switch 2 enhancements are associated with Skyrim Anniversary Edition. Bethesda says owners of the Switch version of Special Edition can play it on Switch 2, but they do not receive the Anniversary Edition’s enhanced features through that edition. Existing Switch Anniversary Edition owners, by contrast, are eligible for a free Switch 2 download, according to Bethesda’s launch announcement.

Bethesda’s announcement listed the full Anniversary Edition at $59.99 and an upgrade for existing Switch Skyrim owners at $19.99. Those are announcement prices, not confirmed current prices; check the eShop for your region before buying. Bethesda said physical Switch owners access the Anniversary Edition upgrade through the in-game menu.

The same announcement describes a physical code-in-box version but also contains older wording that all versions are digital downloads. That does not establish that a cartridge is included, so check the exact regional listing and product format before purchasing a physical copy.

Is it worth revisiting?

If you already own the Switch 2 Anniversary Edition, update 1.2 brings a new display priority and a broad set of targeted fixes. Whether the performance-priority option looks or feels better for you depends on your preference; Bethesda’s notes do not publish independent performance measurements or describe the visual trade-off. Players weighing an upgrade should first check which Switch edition they own, because Special Edition does not provide the Anniversary Edition enhancements.
