If Slime Rancher 2 crashes or will not open on PC, work through the checks that Monomi Park recommends: confirm your PC meets the game’s current requirements, repair the installation, update Windows and your graphics driver, then test for software conflicts. Steam players can also verify the game files. If it still fails, send Monomi Park the diagnostic file that matches when the crash occurs.
Start by identifying when the failure happens
Note whether the game never opens, crashes before the start menu, crashes after the menu, or causes Windows to restart. Record any visible error message and the troubleshooting steps you try. These details help distinguish a launch failure from a later crash; the symptom alone does not establish its cause. Steam notes that launch problems can arise from different system configurations, and Monomi Park’s checklist tests requirements, installation, drivers, and software conflicts.
Check that your PC meets the current requirements
Compare your PC’s actual components with the current requirements linked from Monomi Park’s PC crash troubleshooting guide. The developer specifically calls out checking whether the CPU meets the standard. If a component falls below a listed requirement, Monomi Park says it cannot ensure the game will run. Use the linked current requirements rather than relying on older specification lists.
Repair the game installation
Verify files on Steam
For a Steam copy, file verification is a useful first repair check. Steam says it checks whether the game files are installed correctly and may help with crashes. It can take several minutes; a few files failing verification can be normal when they are local configuration files.

- Restart your computer and launch Steam.
- Open your Library, right-click Slime Rancher 2 (or open its gear menu), then select Properties.
- Choose Installed Files and click Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for the check to finish, then try launching the game again.

Reinstall if the problem persists
Monomi Park’s listed installation step is to uninstall and reinstall Slime Rancher 2. On Steam, try verification first because it is less disruptive. If you reinstall, allow the installation to finish before launching again.
Update Windows and your graphics driver
Install pending operating-system updates, then check for a current graphics driver through the official support channel for your GPU manufacturer. Monomi Park links to driver support for NVIDIA and AMD. Steam’s general launch guidance also includes updating the operating system and drivers. An update is a diagnostic step, not a guaranteed fix.

Test whether another program is interfering
Monomi Park recommends checking for software conflicts. Run a full virus scan, disable startup applications in Task Manager, and consider uninstalling unnecessary applications. You can also use a Windows clean boot to test whether a startup service or app is involved; the steps and labels vary by Windows version.
If the game launches after startup processes are disabled, restore them gradually and test again to identify which process is associated with the failure. This isolates a possible conflict; it does not mean any particular antivirus or background application is known to cause the problem.

Check recent patches and known issues
Updates can fix specific crashes without addressing every PC failure. Monomi Park’s Patch 1.2.2 notes, dated May 11, 2026, list a fix for “A crash loading and starting new games some players were experiencing.” Its Update 1.3.0 notes, dated September 22, 2026, list minor graphics fixes and other fixes, as well as known issues still present in that update. Those notes do not claim that every crash is resolved.
Check the Patch 1.2.2 notes, Update 1.3.0 notes, and official news listing for newer updates and current known issues. If your issue is not listed, Monomi Park directs players to submit a support ticket.

Send Monomi Park the diagnostic file for your crash
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, submit a support request with a clear description, when the crash occurs, any visible error, and the steps you have already tried. Include the file that matches the failure:
- Crash after the start menu: attach
player.log. - Crash before the start menu, or a system-level crash such as the PC restarting: provide DxDiag information.
