What Smithing Stone [7] does
Regular Smithing Stone [7] upgrades standard weapons from +18 to +21. It is used for the +19, +20, and +21 reinforcement steps; it is not the final material for a normal weapon, which can ultimately reach +25.
The bracketed number is the stone’s upgrade tier, not the number of stones you own. You can hold or store up to 999 Smithing Stone [7] items.

The most reliable long-term method is to obtain Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing [4]. Give it to the Twin Maiden Husks at Roundtable Hold, and they will sell unlimited regular Smithing Stone [7] and Smithing Stone [8] for runes.

This is a late-game solution. Crumbling Farum Azula becomes available after the Mountaintops of the Giants sequence and the Forge of the Giants transition, so it is not an early shortcut. It is nevertheless the best route if you are upgrading several standard weapons, testing different builds, or stocking materials for New Game Plus.

If you need several regular Smithing Stone [7] items before reaching Crumbling Farum Azula, defeat the Fallingstar Beast at the end of Sellia Crystal Tunnel in Caelid. Its boss reward includes five Smithing Stone [7] items.

This is a one-time reward, not an unlimited farming method. The fight can also be difficult for an under-leveled character, so treat it as an available injection of materials rather than a requirement if you are not ready for the boss.
Late-game exploration
Individual Smithing Stone [7] pickups are available in late-game areas, including Crumbling Farum Azula. Miners in Yelough Anix Tunnel are also associated with a rare drop of the regular [7] stone. These sources are useful when you are short by one or two materials, but they are finite or unreliable compared with the bell-bearing shop.

Do not confuse it with Somber Smithing Stone [7]
Smithing Stone [7] and Somber Smithing Stone [7] are different materials. Check the upgrade screen before spending time searching: the weapon’s reinforcement path tells you which stone it needs.
- Regular Smithing Stone [7]: for standard weapons following the normal reinforcement path. Its unlimited-stock bell bearing is Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing [4], obtained from the Godskin Duo in Crumbling Farum Azula.
- Somber Smithing Stone [7]: for unique and other weapons that use the somber path. Its shop unlock comes from Somberstone Miner’s Bell Bearing [4], found on a corpse near the Tempest-Facing Balcony Site of Grace in Crumbling Farum Azula.
The somber bell bearing unlocks Somber Smithing Stone [7], Somber Smithing Stone [8], and Sanctuary Stone. It does not unlock regular Smithing Stone [7] or [8]. If you are upgrading a named unique weapon, search for the somber material instead of the regular one.

How to use Smithing Stone [7]
- Take the standard weapon to a smithing station or to Master Hewg at Roundtable Hold.
- Upgrade the weapon through the standard reinforcement path until it reaches +18.
- Use regular Smithing Stone [7] for the next reinforcement levels: +19, +20, and +21.
- Continue with the later regular Smithing Stone tiers when the weapon reaches the levels beyond +21.
Smithing Stone [7] cannot take a normal weapon all the way to its maximum level. A standard weapon eventually reaches +25, and the final reinforcement levels require later materials, including an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone for the last upgrade.

No. Regular Smithing Stone [7] is for standard weapons. Unique weapons generally use Somber Smithing Stone [7], which requires the separate somber bell-bearing progression.
