Snipperclips Reviews: Is the Original or Snipperclips Plus Worth Playing?

Snipperclips turns paper-cutting into an inventive local puzzle game. It is strongest with other players; compare the digital original with the Plus game-card edition before buying.

Snipperclips is easiest to recommend to people who want a playful local multiplayer puzzle game built around working things out together. Its paper-cutting mechanic makes cooperation creative—and sometimes hilariously clumsy. Solo play is available, but critics have cautioned that it is less compelling alone. If you want a physical copy, Nintendo lists that format for Snipperclips Plus; the original is listed as digital software.

What makes Snipperclips different?

In this action-puzzle game, two paper characters, Snip and Clip, can cut pieces from one another to change their shapes. Players use those new shapes to interact with objects and meet each puzzle’s goal. The idea turns communication into part of the puzzle: discuss what shape might work, make a cut, see what happens, and adjust. A mistaken snip can derail the plan—or become the funniest part of a round.

Nintendo describes the game as combining imaginative puzzles with communication between players. Its appeal is less about mastering a fixed set of moves than experimenting together until the characters fit the task.

Is Snipperclips good for two players?

Two-player cooperative play is the clearest fit. The core mechanic gives both players a meaningful role, and the need to coordinate cuts makes even a simple objective a shared problem. Critics have highlighted the charm and multiplayer experience: CGMagazine gave the original 95/100, Destructoid 90/100, and DarkStation 90/100 in reviews published in March 2017, with those individual scores displayed on Metacritic’s critic-review page.

Snipper Clips Plus: Cut it out Together! (Nintendo Switch)
  • Work together to cut paper pals into new shapes and solve puzzles
  • Use your imagination and the objects in each level to solve puzzles in multiple ways
  • Grab a friend or go it alone in World mode
  • 2-4 players* can team up to solve challenging puzzles in Party mode
  • 2-4 players* can also enjoy fast, fun sports-like competitions in Blitz mode

Nintendo’s promotional page also reproduces review praise, including Nintendo World Report’s “….totally magical.” (9/10), Destructoid’s “Simply put, Snipperclips is a treat” (9/10), and Attack of the Fanboy’s “It is cute, colorful, vibrant, and most of all fun.” (4.5/5). Those scores are shown without a year on that page. A Metacritic excerpt from Stevivor, dated March 24, 2017, puts the cooperative tension neatly: “Snipperclips requires thought, co-ordination and timing in a combination that means friendships will be tested.”

What modes can you play?

Nintendo lists three modes, all designed for play on one system:

Snipperclips Plus: Cut it out, Together! - Nintendo Switch
  • Paper pals Snip and Clip must cut each other into the right shapes to overcome tricky obstacles in this updated version of the game.
  • No matter how you cut it, this couch co-op is a riot! Snip may need to cut Clip into a needle to pop balloons or maybe you'll have to team up to form a squawking, egg-laying bird!
  • Additional accessories may be required for multiplayer mode. Sold separately.
  • World: Play solo or cooperatively. The puzzles use the cutting mechanic to solve objectives.
  • Party: Cooperative play for two to four players.
  • Blitz: Competitive play for two to four players.

Nintendo Canada lists single-system play for one to four players and TV, tabletop, and handheld play. The cited Nintendo pages establish local, single-system options; they do not establish whether online multiplayer is supported.

Is Snipperclips worth it if you mostly play solo?

It may be, if you enjoy experimenting with puzzle solutions on your own, but solo-focused buyers should be more cautious. The game’s central pleasure is collaborative: another player can suggest a cut, react to a mistake, or help rethink the shape. DarkStation’s original-game review specifically said multiplayer worked better than solo play. Nintendo Life’s November 29, 2017 review of Snipperclips Plus likewise described the original as a strong multiplayer puzzle game while noting it was “not particularly suitable for solo play.”

That is a caveat, not a claim that solo play is unavailable: Nintendo lists solo play in World mode. The practical question is whether you want to puzzle through the cutting mechanic alone or share the trial-and-error with someone else.

Should you buy the original or Snipperclips Plus?

The right choice depends on format and whether the Plus edition’s additional puzzles and revisit options matter to you. Nintendo UK lists the original as digital software released March 3, 2017, and Snipperclips Plus: Cut it out, together! as a Nintendo Switch game-card edition released November 10, 2017. Reviews of Plus highlighted its new puzzles and reasons to revisit the game. The reviewed sources do not establish a current price comparison.
