In Where Winds Meet, the Soaring Eagle Encounter takes you between Jade Mirror Pond and Masterwood Hamlet as you investigate Zhenzhen’s connection to Murong Yuan. Game8’s route requires completing the Jinming Pool campaign and the Wandering Tale The Eagle’s Shadow, then waiting one real-world day for the Encounter to appear at Jade Mirror Pond. The quest also includes an appointment at Xu hour and a later return after advancing the in-game date; those are separate time gates.
How to unlock Soaring Eagle
Game8 identifies Soaring Eagle as a Kaifeng Encounter at Jade Mirror Pond. Its stated route to the Encounter is to finish the Jinming Pool campaign, complete The Eagle’s Shadow, and wait one real-world day. Then check Jade Mirror Pond and speak to Zhenzhen.
There is a difference between the guides’ trigger instructions. GameTrek also lists the Jinming Pool campaign as a condition, but describes handing a Wooden Eagle to Shi Shouxin before going to Jade Mirror Pond. Game8 instead emphasizes The Eagle’s Shadow and the real-world day wait. Treat the Shi Shouxin handoff as GameTrek’s account, not a universally confirmed extra requirement. If Zhenzhen or the Encounter prompt is absent, check your campaign and Wandering Tale progress, then compare your quest state with the guide’s handoff step.
Find the Wooden Eagle Diagram
During the Jinming Pool campaign, board the Quintadent Warship and solve the painting puzzle to open its secret chamber. Game8 places the Wooden Eagle Diagram on the floor beside a pile of books. Pick it up, then give it to Zhenzhen when you begin Soaring Eagle at Jade Mirror Pond.

Soaring Eagle walkthrough
- Start at Jade Mirror Pond. Speak with Zhenzhen and give her the Wooden Eagle Diagram.
- Meet her at Masterwood Hamlet at Xu hour. This is in-game time: change the clock to Xu hour before going to her family camp. Follow Zhenzhen, sit down, and dine with her and her father, Blacksmith Li.
- Hear Zhenzhen’s story. When the conversation turns to Murong Yuan and she runs off upset, follow her and listen to her full account.
- Ask about Murong Yuan. Speak with Uncle Li in the hamlet, then follow his direction to the Old Shipwright, who knew Murong Yuan.
- Investigate at the Martial Temple. Travel to the temple south of Kaifeng and investigate General Shi’s view of Murong Yuan.
- Enter the passage beneath the shrine. Return to Masterwood Hamlet and interact with the abandoned shrine to reveal the underground passage. Descend by landing on the platforms, then read the Badly Burned Letter on the box.
- Finish the reenactment and deliver the letter. Continue through the dream-like sequence until you return to the real world. Turn around from the cliffside, defeat the government soldiers, speak with Li Shoujie, and give him the Badly Burned Letter.
- Take the plans. Pick up the Explosive Device Plans from the table in the same room. Game8 notes they are used in the separate Wandering Tale All Beauty Fades, where you give them to Tang Ji’an.
- Report back to Zhenzhen. Return to her family camp and tell her what you learned about Murong Yuan.
- Complete the final meeting. Advance the in-game date to the day after tomorrow, return to Jade Mirror Pond, and meet Zhenzhen.
Keep the two clocks straight
- Real-world wait: Game8 says the Encounter appears at Jade Mirror Pond one real-world day after completing The Eagle’s Shadow.
- Xu hour: This is an in-game time setting for the meeting at Masterwood Hamlet. Change the game clock before you go to Zhenzhen’s camp.
- Day-after-tomorrow return: Near the end of Game8’s route, advance the in-game date to the day after tomorrow before returning to Jade Mirror Pond. GameTrek likewise describes waiting until at least two days have advanced before checking the pond again, though the guides’ full trigger sequences differ.
