Solid Snake joined Rainbow Six Siege as a permanent playable attacker when Year 11 Season 1, Operation Silent Hunt, launched on March 3, 2026. His kit pairs a close-range reconnaissance radar with a way to scavenge secondary gadgets during a round, but using the radar lowers his weapon and gives defenders ways to respond. Here’s how his tools work and what to expect from the season update.
When did Operation Silent Hunt launch?
Operation Silent Hunt launched on March 3, 2026, according to Xbox Wire’s launch coverage. Ubisoft’s Operation Silent Hunt overview identifies Solid Snake as the season’s new attacker. The launch coverage describes him as a permanent playable Operator, rather than a limited-time character.
How does Solid Snake’s radar work in Rainbow Six Siege?
Snake’s Soliton Radar Mk. III is a handheld recon tool that marks nearby hostiles on a map of his immediate surroundings. It is not an unrestricted scan of the whole map. In routine use, it provides nearby threat information without the precision mode’s warning to detected enemies.
Precision mode trades stealth for detail
Precision mode pinpoints threats more precisely, but alerts the enemies it detects. That makes it a consequential choice: use the added detail when the team can act on it, and account for the warning that your targets may know they have been found. Ubisoft’s season overview describes the radar’s functions at the Operation Silent Hunt page.

What weapons does Solid Snake use in Siege?
| Weapon | Role | Practical tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| F2 | Assault rifle | Xbox Wire characterizes it as a high-fire-rate choice with substantial recoil, favoring players able to manage its kick. |
| PMR90A2 | Designated marksman rifle | Xbox Wire describes it as the harder-hitting option for players who prefer a more deliberate weapon. |
| TACIT .45 | Suppressed secondary weapon | Snake’s listed secondary; the launch material identifies it as suppressed. |
Ubisoft lists frag grenades, stun grenades, impact EMP grenades, smoke grenades, and a breach charge among Snake’s gadget options. For the weapon descriptions and kit details, see Xbox Wire’s launch guide and Ubisoft’s season overview.
What does On-Site Procurement do?
On-Site Procurement lets Snake take secondary gadgets from fallen Operators, giving him a way to adapt his utility as a round develops. Xbox Wire’s launch guide notes two important limits: team-killed allies are excluded, and the gadgets Snake carries are constrained by category limits. It is an opportunity to adjust to what is available, not an unlimited supply of every gadget.

How do you counter Solid Snake’s radar?
Defenders can reduce the radar’s usefulness or feed it misleading information. Xbox Wire’s launch guide identifies several counters and tactical responses:
- Use information denial or deception: Vigil’s cloak and Mute’s jammers can interfere with Snake’s information, while Alibi’s decoys can confuse it.
- Lean on other surveillance tools: defenders can use their own surveillance to track or anticipate Snake instead of relying only on his radar’s picture.
- Change elevation: moving above or below Snake’s floor can limit how useful a view of his immediate surroundings is.
- Pressure him while he scans: Snake lowers his weapon while using the radar, leaving him with less immediate ability to fight back.
These approaches are described in Xbox Wire’s guide; their value depends on the map, position, and timing.

Xbox Wire’s launch explainer reports that David Hayter reprises Solid Snake’s English voice role for Siege. Ubisoft’s season page adds a qualification: “Please note that the voice-over performance featured here was cast and selected specifically for Rainbow Six Siege and is exclusive to the game.” Ubisoft also says it “does not reflect any interpretation of Solid Snake’s voice within the METAL GEAR series.”
