For a quick start, try Sonic Robo Blast 2 for a 3D take on Genesis-era Sonic, Sonic and the Fallen Star for a completed 2D showcase entry, or Sonic Rush Rerun if you want to sample a remake demo. The available project listings support five recommendations—not fifteen—and several need a current creator page checked before you download.
Classic-style 2D games
Sonic and the Fallen Star
Sonic Fan Games HQ’s entry describes this as a 2D Sonic fan game and marks its SAGE 2022 showcase entry complete. The listing is dated August 6, 2022; that status describes the showcase entry, not necessarily the project’s current download availability.
3D Sonic
Sonic Robo Blast 2
The project-site listing describes Sonic Robo Blast 2 as an open-source 3D fan game built on a modified Doom Legacy port and inspired by the Genesis games. Check the project site for current releases and platform details; the listing alone does not establish which builds are available today.
Sonic GT
Sonic Fan Games HQ’s showcase includes Sonic GT as a fan game. The listing does not establish its current release status, mechanics, or compatibility, so look for the project’s own page before deciding whether it suits your setup.

Remakes and demos
Sonic Rush Rerun
The showcase describes Sonic Rush Rerun as a PC fan remake of Sonic Rush and labels its entry a demo. Treat it as a demo unless its creator’s current release page says otherwise. The listing does not establish current download availability or hardware requirements.
Another showcase project
Sonic Daybreak
Sonic Daybreak appears among the fan games in Sonic Fan Games HQ’s showcase. The index confirms it is listed as a fan game, but does not provide enough current project detail to make claims about its gameplay, completion, or compatibility. Check the creator’s page for those specifics.

How to choose and find a fan game
These projects are not all the same kind of release: the listings distinguish 2D from 3D, original fan projects from remakes, and completed showcase entries from demos. Sonic Fan Games HQ also separates fan games from ROM hacks, mods, tools, tutorials, frameworks, and other resources. It describes itself as the home of the annual Sonic Amateur Games Expo (SAGE), a community showcase.
- Choose by style. Start with the 2D or 3D entries above, or pick the remake demo if revisiting Sonic Rush is your priority.
- Confirm the project type and status. A catalog entry is not proof that a game is complete; in particular, Sonic Rush Rerun is labeled a demo in the reviewed listing.
- Open the creator-controlled release page. Verify that the download link is still active and check the build, operating system, and any installation notes before downloading.
- Check your setup. The showcase listings do not establish universal hardware requirements or controller support. Consult the project’s own current documentation rather than assuming compatibility.
Community indexes are useful discovery tools, but a listing does not guarantee an active link, a current build, or a particular level of completeness. Use the creator’s release channel for the final word on availability and requirements.
