Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds customization spans vehicle type and parts, visual details, and gadgets that grant racing abilities. On Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo lists 45 original vehicles and 70 gadgets; the choices let you shape a preferred style rather than point to one verified best build. Here’s what each option changes and which edition details to check.
What can you customize?
Customization has three main parts: the vehicle setup, its appearance, and the gadgets you equip. SEGA lists vehicle parts and five machine types, plus colors, decals, textures, auras, and horns. Gadgets add abilities that can influence how you race. Nintendo’s Switch 2 product page lists 45 original vehicles and 70 gadgets.

Choose a vehicle type for your racing style
SEGA groups machines into five types. They are distinct starting points for choosing how you want to race; the available official descriptions do not establish a universally superior type or a specific stat ranking.
| Type | How to use the choice |
|---|---|
| Speed | Choose this type if you want to start from a Speed-focused machine style. |
| Acceleration | Choose this type if you want an Acceleration-focused starting point. |
| Handling | Choose this type if you want a Handling-focused starting point. |
| Power | Choose this type if you want a Power-focused starting point. |
| Boost | Choose this type if you want a Boost-focused starting point. |
These labels identify the machine categories, not a guarantee that one will outperform another on every course or for every player. Try a type that fits your preferred feel, then adjust parts and gadgets around it.

How vehicle parts and appearance differ
Parts
SEGA says you can customize vehicle parts as well as choose a machine type. Parts are part of the vehicle setup; avoid treating any one combination as objectively best without current, supported evidence.
Visual choices
Colors, decals, textures, custom auras, and horns let you personalize how a vehicle looks and sounds. These are distinct from the gadget abilities that affect racing.

SEGA notes that additional vehicle options are available through DLC. What is included can depend on the content and edition, so check the listing for your region before buying.
Pick gadgets by the way you want to race
SEGA describes gadgets as abilities that can change play style. Its official examples point to three different preferences:

- Combining elements from farming, Tower defense and time-management genres
- set up and Cultivate your farm with a lot of different fruits, vegetables and animals
- build, manage and upgrade your own restaurant and provide the others with a wide variety of dishes
- protect your farm by building mazes and towers. Our zombies are vicious vegetarians!
- design your own character
- More item use: SEGA suggests Item Stock Plus for players who want to use items more often.
- Drift support: SEGA suggests Quick Charge for players who are less confident in drifting.
- Offensive item play: SEGA suggests Giant Rocket Punch for players who want to attack with items.
These are publisher-provided examples, not independently tested build recommendations. Use them as a starting point for matching gadgets to your habits, rather than as a universal tier list.
Why gadget recommendations need a version date
Gadget selection can change as the game is updated. In its version 1.2.0 notice dated December 4, 2025, SEGA announced six new gadgets, balance adjustments to several gadgets, and the ability to buy certain Gadget Kits previously available as Festival rewards using Donpa Tickets on the Gadget Customization screen.

That notice documents changes in version 1.2.0; it does not establish that this is the latest version. Check the live game’s current version and update notes before relying on detailed build advice, since later changes may alter availability or balance.
