The Standard Edition is the base game; Digital Deluxe adds the original Season Pass. That pass includes the Sonic Prime Character Pack and six paid crossover content waves. It does not automatically mean Season Pass 2 is included. Free update racers such as Hatsune Miku, Joker, and Ichiban Kasuga are separate from the paid pass content.
Standard vs. Digital Deluxe at a glance
| Option | What it includes | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | The base game. Physical and digital editions have been offered on several platforms. | Players who want the core game, or prefer to choose DLC later. |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | The base game plus the original Season Pass. Nintendo’s listing specifies the Sonic Prime characters Rusty Rose, Tails Nine, and Knuckles the Dread, plus six content packs. | Players who want most or all of the first pass’s crossover content. |
SEGA describes the bundle as including “both the base game and the Season Pass!” (SEGA purchase guide). The Season Pass and collaboration DLC are also sold separately, so compare the current same-platform, same-region Deluxe price with the base game plus only the add-ons you actually want.
What the original Season Pass includes
SEGA’s purchase guide lists six content waves. Each adds guest characters and related racing content; the guide cautions that DLC contents and release dates may change.
- Minecraft Pack: Steve, Alex, and Creeper; a Minecart machine; and the Minecraft World course.
- SpongeBob SquarePants Pack: SpongeBob and Patrick; the Patty Wagon machine; and the Bikini Bottom course.
- PAC-MAN Pack: PAC-MAN and Ghosts; the PAC-MAN Mobile machine; and the PAC-Village & Maze course.
- Mega Man Pack: Mega Man and Proto Man; the Rush Roadstar machine; and the Wily Castle course.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pack: Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello; the Pizzafire Van; and a New York City course. SEGA identified this as paid content wave 5 in July 2026.
- Avatar Legends Pack: Aang and Katara; the Gliding Air machine; and the Lion Turtle Island course.
Nintendo describes the Season Pass as the Sonic Prime Character Pack plus six packs with guest characters, vehicles, tracks, emotes, and more (Nintendo US Digital Deluxe listing). The original pass should not be treated as a promise of every later collaboration or Season 2 item.

Free updates and paid DLC are different
Not every additional racer requires Digital Deluxe or the first Season Pass. SEGA announced Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona 5 Royal, and Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon as racers arriving through free updates in June 2025. SEGA’s January 2026 Switch 2 notice also identifies Blue Star as free DLC.
By contrast, SEGA identifies the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles wave as paid DLC. Standard or physical-edition owners need to buy and download it from their platform store; Season Pass owners can access it after starting the updated game and completing the tutorial.

Season Pass 2 is not established as part of Digital Deluxe
SEGA announced Season Pass 2 on June 6, 2026, and a September notice confirms Bayonetta is associated with Season 2. The official pages cited here do not establish the full contents of that pass or confirm that original Digital Deluxe buyers receive it. Treat it as separate or unspecified unless the current store listing for your exact platform and edition explicitly says otherwise.
Platform, format, and early-access differences
Early access
SEGA’s purchase guide advertised up to 72 hours of early access for Digital Deluxe on non-Nintendo platforms. It explicitly says Nintendo Switch editions do not include that benefit. Because this was a launch-period offer and the game has launched, early access is not a current reason to upgrade.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
SEGA confirms a physical Nintendo Switch 2 standard edition. Existing Nintendo Switch owners can play the Switch 2 Edition by purchasing a paid upgrade pass. SEGA also described a discounted combined route using the Switch Digital Deluxe bundle and the Switch 2 upgrade pass. These are distinct from buying a native physical Switch 2 copy; verify the regional store’s current terms before choosing a route. SEGA’s January 2026 Japanese notice listed the Switch 2 Standard Edition at 7,990 yen including tax, a Japan-specific figure rather than a current US price.
Physical versus digital
Standard has been offered in physical and digital form on several platforms, while Digital Deluxe is a digital bundle. If physical ownership matters, check that the listing is for the right console generation: an original Switch game plus a paid Switch 2 upgrade is not the same purchase as a physical Switch 2 edition.

How to compare prices and choose
Store prices vary by platform, region, and promotion. In US storefront snapshots checked October 3, 2026, PlayStation listed Standard at $69.99, Digital Deluxe at $89.99, and the Season Pass at $29.99. Nintendo listed the Season Pass at $29.99 and the Minecraft and SpongeBob add-on packs at $5.99 each. These are dated store observations, not guaranteed current prices or universal MSRP. Check your own storefront before buying.
- Choose Standard if you want the base game and are unsure which paid packs you will play.
- Choose Digital Deluxe if the first Season Pass’s Sonic Prime characters and six crossover waves are worth the bundle price to you.
- If you already own the game, compare the pass price with the cost of the specific add-ons you want; do not pay again for a base game you already own unless the bundle math makes sense.
- If you own the Switch version, compare the paid upgrade-pass route with a native Switch 2 copy, and confirm whether the relevant bundle is digital or physical.
- Check the pass generation. A listing for the original Season Pass does not by itself establish Season Pass 2 entitlement.
For context, SEGA reported more than 1 million units sold worldwide on October 23, 2025, counting physical units and digital downloads across platforms (SEGA announcement). That is a historical sales figure, not a current total.
