SEGA’s June 9, 2025 trailer announcement named three racers for free updates to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona 5 Royal, and Ichiban Kasuga from Like a Dragon. It also revealed a separate, paid crossover path: the first Season Pass wave brings in Minecraft racers Steve, Alex, and Creeper, along with a themed machine and course. That distinction matters—the trailer did not make every guest character free.
Which guest characters did the trailer announce?
SEGA’s June 9, 2025 announcement identified these three guests for free post-launch updates, with a signature vehicle for each:

- Hatsune Miku, the virtual singer.
- Joker, from Persona 5 Royal.
- Ichiban Kasuga, from Like a Dragon.
The same announcement put Minecraft content in the first Season Pass wave instead: Steve, Alex, and Creeper as racers, plus a Minecraft-themed machine and course. The announcement described crossover content as arriving gradually after launch and noted that it could change. SEGA’s June 9 announcement is the source for the trailer-era lineup and planned content paths.
Free updates versus Season Pass content
The trailer announcement drew a clear line between the three free-update guests and the Minecraft Season Pass wave. It did not say that all crossover characters would be free, nor that every guest would be paid.

| Steve, Alex, Creeper | First Season Pass wave | Three racers, a themed machine, and a course |
SEGA described the Digital Deluxe Edition as including the base game and Season Pass. That makes the edition relevant to the announced Minecraft wave; the June announcement did not say it was required to receive the three free-update racers.
How the CrossWorlds mechanic fits the guest reveal
Guest racers are part of a game built around changing tracks mid-race. In SEGA’s launch description, Travel Rings shift racers to another world for lap two, where the course changes; the final lap returns them to the original course. This is the central CrossWorlds concept behind the game’s name, rather than simply a roster of familiar characters racing on fixed tracks.

The launch notice also described customizable machines, more than 70 gadgets, cross-play, 12-player World Match, team Festival events, and Time Trial. These are publisher-described features, not independent performance or gameplay findings. SEGA’s September 25, 2025 launch announcement provides that launch-era feature and roster context.
How the roster changed after the trailer
The June 2025 announcement was a snapshot, not a complete or current roster. At launch, SEGA described 23 characters from the Sonic universe and listed the three free-update guests; it also identified Minecraft, SpongeBob SquarePants, and PAC-MAN crossover characters as premium DLC. Those statements describe the launch-era lineup and categories, not every later addition.

Later official announcements added more developments: SEGA said AXEL would arrive in a free update on August 26, 2026, with the Devolada Yellow Jack machine; its notice said an internet connection is required to claim add-ons. On September 16, 2026, the official site announced Bayonetta for Year Two and linked a trailer showing her in action, without giving further details on that page. These are later announcements, not characters revealed in the June 2025 trailer. See the AXEL update notice and Bayonetta Year Two announcement.

The June announcement also mentioned a physical standard edition and a 2BRO. collaboration bundle on Amazon.co.jp. That bundle, which included the game and an original T-shirt, was explicitly limited to Japan—not a generally available edition.
Sales figure: a dated milestone
SEGA Sammy Holdings reported more than 1 million units worldwide on October 23, 2025, counting physical units and digital downloads across platforms. That is the company’s figure as of that announcement date, not a current lifetime total. SEGA Sammy Holdings’ release archive is the cited source.
