Sonic X Shadow Generations’ Movie Pack was announced for release on December 12, 2024. The US Xbox Store lists it at $5.99, while prices vary by region and platform. The add-on includes a Tokyo-set stage and a Movie Shadow skin; it requires the base game if purchased separately.
When did the Movie Pack release?
SEGA announced December 12, 2024 as the release date for the Movie Pack in its September 24, 2024 PlayStation Blog announcement, which named PS4 and PS5. Storefront dates do not all match that announced date: the US Xbox Store lists December 13, 2024, while SEGA’s later availability announcement is dated December 16. These are storefront or announcement dates, not evidence that every region and platform unlocked the DLC at the same time.
How much does the Movie Pack cost?
There is no single worldwide price. The following are regional storefront examples, not a guaranteed current price or a universal conversion:
| Storefront or region | Listed price | What the listing establishes |
|---|---|---|
| US Xbox Store | $5.99 | Microsoft’s listing, accessed October 8, 2026; the page also shows December 13, 2024 as its release date. Xbox Store |
| Japan, Switch 2 | 660 yen, tax included | SEGA’s April 3, 2025 announcement confirms Switch 2 availability and this Japanese price. SEGA announcement |
| Steam | €5.99 | Steam’s DLC listing displayed this price when accessed October 8, 2026. Its displayed date is inconsistent with the announced release date, so it should not be treated as the launch date. Steam listing |

What does the Movie Pack include?
The DLC adds a stage set in Tokyo, including modern-day Shibuya, and an exclusive Movie Shadow skin. SEGA describes Shadow entering Tokyo through a space-time distortion, while the Xbox listing presents him racing through Shibuya to fight G.U.N. In English, Keanu Reeves voices Movie Shadow.
This is bonus content inspired by the film, not a retelling of its plot. Sonic series producer Shun Nakamura told PlayStation Blog: “This content will not have a story which per se that would relate directly to the movie. Rather, as you can see in the trailer, it will be set in Tokyo, where Shadow visits in the movie.”

What should buyers check before purchasing?
- Confirm the platform: The September 2024 announcement named PS4 and PS5; the Xbox listing covers Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S; SEGA confirmed Switch 2 availability in 2025; and Steam lists the PC version. Check the matching platform store for current availability and terms.
- Make sure you have the base game: The Xbox listing says the Movie Pack requires SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS, sold separately. The base game is a separate product unless you own an edition or upgrade that includes the DLC.
- Compare edition options: SEGA says the Movie Pack is included in the Digital Deluxe Edition or available through the Digital Deluxe Upgrade for Standard Edition owners. Check the current store listing to confirm what a particular edition or upgrade includes.
- Know where Movie Shadow can be used: He is playable only in the Movie Pack’s added Acts and Challenge Acts, not in the base game’s Acts or White Space. His voice remains in English even when other language settings are selected; see SEGA’s official caution notice.
