Dedicated-server data uses a separate folder by default: %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowEndnightSonsOfTheForestDS. To find either location, paste its path into File Explorer’s address bar.
Find your Sons of the Forest client saves
Open File Explorer, paste this path into its address bar, and press Enter:

%USERPROFILE% resolves to the Windows profile of the account you are currently using. Under Saves, open the account-specific folder, then look for the game-mode and save-slot folders. Choose the right multiplayer folder
The folder you need depends on how you played. A game-specific Steam Community discussion distinguishes the Multiplayer folder for a world hosted by you from MultiplayerClient, which holds local player data when you join someone else’s hosted game. Single-player saves are stored separately by mode. The precise inner files vary by save and mode, so identify the relevant slot rather than assuming every file belongs to the same world. Where to look for client configuration files
Client settings are in the game’s LocalLow data area, not the Steam installation directory. A third-party game reference names SonsGameSettings.cfg in ...EndnightSonsOfTheForest. The sources available for this guide do not establish that filename as an official or guaranteed current reference, so use it as a clue when checking the folder, not as a certainty. The community-maintained Dedicated Server Configuration Guide describes this directory as the location for server configuration, saves, and logs. It lists dedicatedserver.cfg as the main JSON configuration file, along with ownerswhitelist.txt and SonsGameSettings. These files may be created on the server’s first launch. Server saves are in a Saves subfolder unless the data path is overridden.

Check for a redirected data directory
If the server launch command includes -userdatapath, the directory specified by that argument replaces the default location. Check the server’s launch command before concluding that its files are missing. The guide is community-maintained, so details may change with server updates.
Back up a save before moving or editing it
- Close the game before copying client files. For a dedicated server, stop the server first so files are less likely to change during the copy.
- Copy the complete relevant save-slot folder to a separate location. For a server, copy the user-data directory or at least its full
Savesdirectory and configuration files. - Keep the original copy untouched until the moved or edited save loads successfully.
- If files are missing, check that you are using the correct Windows account. For a server, also check whether
-userdatapathredirects its data.
Steam Cloud can store game saves and settings in general, but Steam’s documentation does not guarantee that a particular Sons of the Forest change will sync or resolve a conflict in your favor. Treat cloud sync as separate from a backup you control. Steam Support: Steam Cloud
