Sony took Concord offline beginning September 6, 2024, then announced on October 29 that the game would be permanently sunset and Firewalk Studios would close. Sony said the game did not reach enough players and failed to meet its targets; it did not publish sales, player-count or budget figures in the statements announcing the decisions.
When did Concord go offline?
The shutdown unfolded in two stages. On September 3, 2024, Firewalk game director Ryan Ellis announced that Concord would go offline beginning September 6, sales would stop immediately, and refunds would be offered to buyers on PS5 and PC. At that point, Sony said it was exploring options for the game; the September announcement was not yet a declaration that it would be permanently discontinued. Sony’s September 3 announcement

Why did Sony shut down Concord?
Sony’s stated explanation was that parts of the game did not attract enough players and that the title missed its targets. In September, Ellis said: “However, while many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended.”

In October, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, said that “certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but others did not land with enough players, and as a result we took the game offline.” He also described the PvP first-person shooter genre as “a competitive space that’s continuously evolving” and said Sony “did not hit our targets with this title.” Hulst framed the studio decision within Sony’s ongoing evaluation of its games and projects.
Those statements explain Sony’s decision in the company’s own terms, but they do not establish a complete independent account of what caused the game’s performance. The announcements provide no official sales total, player count, development budget or cost figure.

How did Concord refunds work?
Sony announced refunds for PS5 and PC purchasers when it stopped sales in September. Its stated refund routes depended on where the game was bought:

Sony said some PlayStation refunds could take 30–60 days to appear; this was a possible posting period, not a guaranteed deadline. Players who received a refund would lose access to the game. What happened to Firewalk Studios’ staff?
Sony announced that Firewalk Studios would close. Hulst said Sony would work to find placement for some affected Firewalk and Neon Koi staff in its global studios where possible. The announcement did not give a Firewalk-specific count of affected employees.
