Is Ape Escape coming back? Two reports say Sony is looking to revive the franchise, but Sony has not announced a game. The claim is attributed to industry insider NateTheHate, and no title, platform, release date, or developer has been confirmed.
What has been reported about an Ape Escape return?
TalkEsport reported on October 4, 2026, that NateTheHate said Sony plans to bring back Ape Escape. PlayStation LifeStyle had reported on October 2 that the series was among dormant PlayStation franchises reportedly being considered for a return. These are reports about an unconfirmed plan, not an official Sony announcement.
TalkEsport quoted NateTheHate as saying, “I said a while ago, Sony is looking to bring back some dormant franchises.” The wording was attributed to his post on the ResetEra forum; it is not a statement from Sony. TalkEsport’s October 4 report and PlayStation LifeStyle’s October 2 report are the sources for the revival claim.
Who is making a new Ape Escape game?
No developer has been named. The reports say Team Asobi is not involved, while the insider was less certain about Bandai Namco and thought it was not involved. Those studio details remain insider claims, not confirmed development information from Sony.

Why is the series described as last seen in 2010?
Ape Escape began on PS1 in 1999. The latest series release identified in the reports is PlayStation Move Ape Escape, released in Japan in 2010 and in Western markets in 2011. Ape Escape 3, released in 2005, was the last numbered sequel. The 2010 date therefore refers to the Japanese release of the latest game, not a simultaneous worldwide launch.

The official US PlayStation Store lists Ape Escape: On the Loose, originally released for PSP, for PS4 and PS5. The store listing gives March 7, 2025 as the PS4/PS5 listing release date and describes Spike using gadgets to stop monkeys from changing history. This is a current digital option for that older game, not evidence of a new installment. Availability, price, and subscription requirements may change.
