Sony has reportedly tested different discount offers for selected PlayStation Store users, but the available evidence does not show that the company has charged those users more than the standard price. PSPrices identified experimental offers in PlayStation Store data, and later user reports described differing discounts on Star Wars games. Sony’s official confirmation, the rules for selecting users, and the test’s current scope have not been established by the cited reports.
What the PlayStation Store pricing reports say
PSPrices, a price-tracking service, says it detected unusual offer structures with the identifiers IPT_PILOT, IPT_OPR_TESTING and IPT_LTM in PlayStation API responses. It interpreted the offers as experiments shown to selected user segments. The tracker says it monitors PlayStation Store prices across more than 50 regions; its account of the test is not Sony documentation. PSPrices’ March 2026 report describes the findings and its correction to an earlier reading of the GTA V example.

“Dynamic pricing” is a common shorthand for the reports, but it can imply more than the evidence shows. The detailed March examples were prices below the stated retail price or deeper discounts—not demonstrated surcharges. The September follow-up describes different discounts in logged-in and logged-out views, but does not explain how those offers were generated.
What prices and games were reported
The figures below are dated PSPrices observations from March 2026, not current offers or prices every player should expect to see. The tracker reported different discount levels, including examples from Germany and the United States.

| Reported example | Region and program | Price reported |
|---|---|---|
| Grand Theft Auto V | United States; experimental offers | $39.99 stated retail price; $26.99 and $29.99 experimental prices. PSPrices clarified that both were discounts, not increases. |
| Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, God of War Ragnarök and Stellar Blade | Germany; IPT_PILOT | €79.99 regular price and €69.99 experimental price for each, a reported 12.5% reduction. |
| HELLDIVERS 2 | United States; IPT_PILOT | $39.99 regular price and $28.89 experimental price, a reported 27.8% reduction. |
| HELLDIVERS 2 during a February sale | Experiment participants compared with regular users | PSPrices reported 56% off for participants and 25% off for regular users. |
PSPrices also said the test grew from 50 games in 30 regions at an initial November 2025 stage to more than 190 games in over 70 regions by March 2026, when the United States was included. Its March page separately described 189 games in the US experiment and said the US-only IPT_LTM program included 104 games. These are tracker-reported counts from that period, not an inventory of the test in October 2026.
What the September 2026 reports add
A September 9, 2026 TechRadar report by Hamish Hector summarized user reports of different discounts for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor in logged-in and logged-out Canadian views. This is evidence of reported differences, not a controlled comparison: it does not establish that login status caused them, that the same pattern applied to other users, or that Sony had expanded the test universally.

Why might two players see different discounts?
The reports do not establish which account or other attributes, if any, determine an offer. They do not demonstrate a rule based on purchase history, PlayStation Plus subscription, spending, or interest in a franchise. A difference between two views alone is not enough to identify its cause; region, edition, sale timing, and account visibility are among the details that need to be compared before drawing conclusions.
Sony’s official confirmation or explanation is not established by the reports cited here. A March 10, 2026 TechRadar report by Demi Williams summarized the PSPrices findings; it does not supply a complete account of Sony’s rationale or targeting rules.

How to check whether an offer is actually different
When comparing an offer with another player’s report or a price-tracker listing, capture the details that can change what the comparison means:
- Game and edition, including any bundle or special edition distinction.
- Storefront region and currency.
- Date and whether a public sale was active.
- Whether the view was signed in or logged out.
- The quoted regular price as well as the discounted price.
Price trackers can help compare observed listings over time and across regions. They cannot establish what every PlayStation account sees or reveal the selection rule behind an account-visible offer. TheSixthAxis also recommends price tracking in its March 6, 2026 analysis.
