Sony’s PS VR2 PC Adapter launched on August 7, 2024. It lets owners connect the wired headset to a compatible Windows PC and play SteamVR titles, but it does not bring PS5-exclusive PS VR2 games to PC—and several PS VR2 features are unavailable there. The adapter is most appealing to people who already own the headset and a suitable gaming PC.
Release date, launch price and what you need to buy
Sony announced the adapter on June 3, 2024, and released it on August 7, 2024. Sony’s announced estimated launch prices were $59.99 in the United States, €59.99 in Europe and £49.99 in the United Kingdom. Those are 2024 launch prices, not a verified current price; check a retailer or Sony’s regional store for current availability and pricing. Sony’s original announcement described availability through selected retailers.
The adapter package does not eliminate the need for other hardware. You need a PS VR2 headset and its headset cable, a compatible Windows PC, and a DisplayPort 1.4 cable, which is sold separately. You may also need a compatible Bluetooth adapter for the Sense controllers. Check the contents of the specific retail package before buying; regional packages or retailer listings can differ. Sony’s regional adapter product page is one official purchase reference.
What the adapter does—and how the connection works
The adapter is an interface between the headset and a Windows PC. The PC connects to it over USB and DisplayPort, the adapter connects to AC power, and the PS VR2 headset plugs into the adapter’s USB-C port. The headset remains wired; the adapter does not make it wireless. Sony documents the ports and connections in its PC Adapter instruction manual.

For software, you need a Steam account, Steam, SteamVR and the PlayStation VR2 app from Steam. Sony says the PlayStation VR2 app handles PC setup, play-area configuration and headset firmware updates; SteamVR runs compatible VR titles. A game must support SteamVR to be usable in VR through this route.
Windows PC requirements
Sony’s U.S. support page lists the following minimum PC requirements. Meeting them is not a promise that every SteamVR game will run smoothly; each game has its own demands.
| Component | Sony’s listed requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11 64-bit |
| Processor | Intel Core i5-7600 or AMD Ryzen 3 3100 |
| Memory | 8 GB or more |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or later, NVIDIA RTX-series hardware, AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT or later, or AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT or later; Sony specifies Turing or later for the relevant NVIDIA requirement |
| Video output | A dedicated standard DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort output and a DisplayPort 1.4 connection |
| USB | A direct USB 3.0 connection to the PC |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 4.0 or later for the Sense controllers; this baseline does not guarantee every adapter will work |
| Sony’s recommended graphics tier | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or later, or AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT or later, for better performance |
There are important connection exceptions. Sony says DisplayPort over USB-C is not compatible with the adapter. The DisplayPort cable must run directly from a compatible PC graphics output, and the adapter should connect directly to a USB 3.0 port rather than through a hub or extension. Laptop owners should verify an actual compatible DisplayPort path; a USB-C port that supports video is not enough. See Sony’s PC setup and troubleshooting requirements before purchasing.

Pairing the PS VR2 Sense controllers
For first-time PC pairing, enable Bluetooth in Windows and disconnect any USB cables from the controllers. Pair the controllers one at a time:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- On the left controller, hold PS and Create until its status light blinks.
- In Windows Bluetooth settings, add the controller.
- On the right controller, hold PS and Options until its status light blinks.
- Add that controller separately, then confirm both are visible in SteamVR.
If the controllers were previously paired with a PS5, turn the console off while pairing with the PC to reduce connection confusion. Sony says Bluetooth compatibility is not guaranteed. Its U.S. support page lists these adapters as tested on July 20, 2024: TP-Link UB500, Buffalo BSBT5D205BK, ASUS USB-BT500 and IO-DATA USB-BT50LE. They are examples, not a universal guarantee. Sony recommends current manufacturer drivers; for an external adapter, use a USB 2.0 port, keep it away from USB 3.0 interference, and try a short USB 2.0 extension cable if needed for line of sight. See Sony’s Bluetooth compatibility and troubleshooting guidance.
What works on PC, and what does not
Sony says the headset supports 2,000 × 2,040 pixels per eye, an approximately 110-degree field of view, finger-touch detection, see-through view, foveated rendering without eye tracking, 3D audio in supported games and basic controller vibration on PC. These are capabilities available to PC software, not a guarantee that every title uses each one. Sony says PC 3D audio uses SteamVR audio technology rather than PS5’s Tempest 3D AudioTech.

Several PS5-associated features are unavailable on PC: HDR output, eye tracking, headset feedback, adaptive triggers and PS VR2 Sense controller haptic feedback beyond basic vibration. Resolution and HDR are separate: the stated per-eye resolution remains available, but HDR does not. Without Sony’s PC eye-tracking support, games cannot use that hardware for eye-tracked features such as eye-tracked foveated rendering.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which games can you play?
The adapter opens access to SteamVR titles, not the PlayStation Store library. Sony cited Half-Life: Alyx, Fallout 4 VR and War Thunder among the PC games players could access, and described thousands of SteamVR games as available. That does not mean every PC game supports VR; check each game’s Steam listing for VR and controller support. A title may also need a particular controller layout or extra configuration.

Common connection and performance problems
No image or headset not detected
- Confirm that the cable is DisplayPort 1.4 and connects directly to the PC’s compatible graphics output, not a motherboard output.
- Do not route the signal through USB-C, a dock, hub, switch or adapter. Sony specifically excludes DisplayPort over USB-C.
- Update the graphics driver and check that the headset and adapter connections are secure.
- If SteamVR detection remains unreliable, Sony’s troubleshooting guidance includes testing Direct Mode under SteamVR > Settings > Developer > Enable Direct Mode.
USB or tracking instability
- Connect the adapter directly to a USB 3.0 port; remove hubs and extension cables.
- Try another motherboard USB port and temporarily disconnect other high-bandwidth USB devices.
Controllers disconnect or fail to pair
- Update the Bluetooth driver, charge both controllers and repeat the pairing steps.
- If using an external adapter, try disabling problematic built-in Bluetooth, moving the adapter away from USB 3.0 ports or using a USB 2.0 extension for a clearer line of sight.
- Turn off a PS5 previously paired with the controllers. If pairing still fails, remove stale or hidden Bluetooth/controller devices in Windows Device Manager, restart Windows and pair again.
Low frame rates, stutter or discomfort
- Check the individual game’s graphics requirements; Sony’s headset minimum does not guarantee strong performance in every title.
- Lower SteamVR render resolution and check that the game is not rendering at an unnecessarily high resolution.
- Try disabling Motion Smoothing, and update or, if necessary, roll back the graphics driver.
Sony’s support page covers additional connection and SteamVR troubleshooting. The headset is wired by design: that may suit a direct PC setup, but it does not offer the freedom of wireless VR.
Is the PS VR2 PC Adapter worth buying?
It is a practical way to extend an existing PS VR2 into SteamVR if you already have a capable PC, a native compatible DisplayPort connection and an acceptable Bluetooth setup. Its appeal is strongest if you want PC VR titles such as Half-Life: Alyx without buying a second headset, and are comfortable with a tethered experience and the listed feature losses.
It is a weaker choice if you want wireless VR, expect PC access to PS5 exclusives, or care most about HDR, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, headset feedback or advanced controller haptics. If you do not own PS VR2 and only want PC VR, buying the headset plus adapter is harder to justify: consider that combination mainly if you also want to use PS VR2 with a PS5. Sony’s PS VR2 product page describes the headset itself.
