There are no published Space Engineers 2 dedicated-server requirements yet. Keen Software House’s current roadmap places dedicated servers after the first four-player, player-hosted co-op milestone. The available CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, Windows and DirectX figures describe the SE2 game client, not a server. Do not size or rent a dedicated machine using those figures or the original Space Engineers (SE1) server guide.

The short answer for Space Engineers 2 servers in 2026
If you are searching for a CPU, RAM amount, operating system or hosting plan for an SE2 dedicated server, the official answer is that the specification has not been published. Keen’s current SE2 roadmap says the first planned multiplayer step is four-player co-op with player hosting only. It explicitly distinguishes that milestone from “full large-scale multiplayer or dedicated servers yet” and says dedicated servers will come later.

That makes two conclusions important:
- You cannot currently validate a commercial dedicated-server plan as SE2-compatible from the official information available.
- You should not convert the SE2 client’s 16 GB RAM or graphics-card requirements into server requirements.
The roadmap target for the planned “VS4: Coop Multiplayer & NPCs” milestone is November/December 2026. That is a target for the co-op milestone, not a confirmed dedicated-server launch date. A later roadmap change could move it, and the page does not publish server binaries, operating-system support or hardware sizing.
What Keen has actually published for SE2
Client requirements, not server requirements
Keen’s SE2 support hardware table covers the computer that renders the game, runs its physics and displays the world to a player. It lists a graphics processor, frame-rate targets and DirectX 12, all of which are client-oriented details. The Steam listing presents the same broad profiles and identifies the game as a playable Early Access Alpha.

Keen says these relatively high requirements reflect advanced rendering, enhanced physics simulation and a more detailed grid system. The game is still in alpha, so further optimization is expected. Those explanations help you choose a player PC; they do not establish what an eventual headless or dedicated server process will consume.
Why the client table cannot be used as a server specification
A GPU on the client list does not mean a server needs one
A player’s computer must draw every frame, so the support table specifies a GPU and a DirectX version. A dedicated server normally runs simulation, world state, networking and administration without rendering frames. Until Keen documents the server executable and its rendering dependencies, there is no basis for buying a graphics card for an SE2 server.
Sixteen gigabytes of RAM is not an SE2 server minimum
The 16 GB figure appears in both client profiles. It tells you how much memory Keen expects for the game client under the stated settings; it says nothing about memory used by a headless simulation, save files, mods, operating-system overhead or multiple worlds. Treating 16 GB as a server floor would be an unsupported assumption.
Storage capacity is also unresolved
“About 40 GB free” is the client installation guidance. A server deployment could have different program files, world-save growth, backups, logs and update staging needs. No official SE2 server storage figure, save-size limit or backup recommendation is available.

Can you host a Space Engineers 2 server now?
What the first multiplayer milestone provides
The roadmap places “VS4: Coop Multiplayer & NPCs” before the water milestone and currently targets November/December 2026. Keen describes the initial multiplayer implementation as four-player co-op with player hosting only. In that model, one participant’s machine hosts the session while also running that player’s client.
The roadmap specifically says the feature is not full-scale multiplayer and not dedicated-server support. It also identifies difficult shared-world systems that must be handled, including contracts, progression, rewards, GPS markers, respawning and disconnecting. Those details explain why a player-hosted co-op release should not be treated as an already available server product.
What “player hosting” means for your hardware
The host will need to satisfy the game’s client requirements because the host is also playing. Hosting may add simulation and networking work, but Keen has not published a supported hardware multiplier or an upper-bound player count beyond the planned four-player milestone. Do not promise a particular frame rate, tick rate or world size based on the client table.
What is not confirmed
- No dedicated-server download or release date is confirmed.
- No SE2 server CPU, RAM, storage, bandwidth or port requirements are published.
- No official Linux server binary is confirmed.
- No provider is officially documented as hosting SE2 dedicated servers.
The SE1 dedicated-server guide is a different product
Keen’s original Space Engineers dedicated-server page is useful for understanding the kind of information a mature server product might eventually document, but every figure on that page belongs to SE1. It must not be presented as an SE2 requirement.

The original guide also discusses running the service in the foreground or as a service and configuring port forwarding. None of those instructions proves that the same executable, port or runtime will work with SE2. Copying an SE1 tutorial into an SE2 setup can produce a server that simply cannot launch or accept connections.
Can you run an SE2 dedicated server on Linux?
There is no confirmed SE2 Linux dedicated-server binary in the official material reviewed. A support-portal discussion requests Linux dedicated-server binaries, but a request or user comment is not a product announcement, compatibility statement or requirements document.

Once Keen releases server software, compare providers against documented SE2 values rather than marketing labels. These are the decision points that matter:

Hosting model
- Player-hosted co-op: no separate server bill, but the host’s availability, upload connection and game performance determine the session.
- Self-managed dedicated server: you control the operating system, updates, saves and network, but you also handle security, backups and troubleshooting.
- Managed server: the provider may handle deployment and restarts, but verify that it supports the exact SE2 edition, update channel and save-transfer method.
Compatibility and capacity
Require an explicit SE2 product listing, supported game version, platform limitations and any cross-play restrictions. Check the official player cap, CPU model or guaranteed processing allocation, memory allocation, save-size policy and mod support. “Space Engineers server” without the number 2 is not enough evidence.

Operations
Look for scheduled restarts, automatic updates with rollback options, administrative tools, console access, monitoring, backups and downloadable save files. Ask where data is stored and how quickly a failed world can be restored. These operational features matter as much as raw CPU specifications for a long-running survival world.
Network and portability
Confirm the required bandwidth, latency expectations, public-address or port requirements and firewall procedure. Check whether you can export the world to another host or your own machine. Do not accept an advertised player count unless it is tied to an SE2 version and a stated world or mod configuration.
Cost
Compare the recurring fee, setup charges, storage and backup limits, cancellation terms and data-export policy. No SE2 hosting price is established by the current official documentation, so any price quoted before server support is released is a provider-specific offer, not an official benchmark.

What to do before spending money
- Check Keen’s current SE2 roadmap and support pages. Confirm that dedicated-server support has moved beyond a future roadmap item.
- Separate client and server wording. Use the 4-core/3 GHz, 8-core/3.6 GHz, 16 GB RAM and GPU table only to assess a player or player-hosting PC.
- Ask for the server executable and supported platforms. A provider should identify the official SE2 build, version, operating system and update process.
- Request measurable capacity details. Get player limits, CPU allocation, memory, storage, bandwidth and mod policies in writing.
- Plan backups and migration. Confirm that world saves can be downloaded and restored independently of the provider.
- Recheck after the planned VS4 window. November/December 2026 is a roadmap target for four-player co-op, not proof that dedicated servers will be available immediately afterward.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying a graphics card for the server
The GPU rows are for rendering the client. Unless a future server specification explicitly requires graphics hardware, spend on reliable CPU capacity, memory and storage instead—but do not choose exact amounts until Keen publishes them.

Those numbers describe the original game’s dedicated server. SE2 has different rendering, physics and grid technology and remains in alpha. Carrying the old values forward can under-size a machine or create false confidence.
Assuming a familiar port or SteamCMD recipe
The original guide’s default UDP port 27016 and SteamCMD instructions are not SE2 documentation. Wait for the SE2 deployment guide before opening firewall ports or writing service scripts.
Trusting a hosting label without version proof
A listing for the original game, an unofficial emulator or a generic game-server template does not establish SE2 support. Require an explicit SE2 version, executable and update policy.
Bottom line
In 2026, Space Engineers 2 has published client requirements but no official dedicated-server requirements. The near-term multiplayer plan is four-player, player-hosted co-op, with dedicated servers scheduled for a later stage. Use the client table to check the host player’s PC, keep SE1 server figures strictly separate, and wait for Keen’s SE2 server software and documentation before buying hardware or hosting.
