What are the Space Engineers system requirements?
Keen Software House’s current requirements page is the primary specification. Compare your computer with every row in this table, not just the processor or graphics card. A PC is inside the published minimum floor only when it satisfies all minimum entries simultaneously.

Can my PC run Space Engineers?
Use the checklist below to make a yes-or-no assessment. Start with the operating system and API, then check CPU, RAM, GPU, and free space. The weakest row determines whether your system clears the minimum tier.
1. Confirm the operating system
The published baseline is Windows 10 64-bit. A 32-bit installation does not match that requirement. Keen’s list does not state support details for other operating systems in the cited specification, so treat Windows 10 64-bit as the documented reference rather than assuming that an alternative OS is covered.
2. Check the processor
For minimum play, look for an Intel Core i5-7600K running at 3.80 GHz or above, or an AMD equivalent. The recommended target is a quad-core Intel Core i7 at 4.5 GHz or above, or an AMD equivalent. Processor model, core count, architecture, and sustained performance all matter; a higher advertised boost number alone does not prove equivalence.
3. Check installed memory
Space Engineers lists 8 GB of RAM as the minimum and 16 GB as recommended. Windows and other applications also consume memory, so a machine with exactly 8 GB may have little headroom even though it meets the written floor. The requirement itself is a capacity threshold, not a promise that every 8 GB configuration will behave identically.
4. Identify the graphics card
The minimum graphics examples are a GeForce 750 Ti or Radeon R9 270X, or higher. The recommended examples are a GeForce 1070 or Radeon RX Vega 56, or higher. Check the dedicated GPU model in your system information; integrated graphics should not be assumed to equal one of these named cards unless their actual capabilities are verified.

5. Verify DirectX 11 capability
Both tiers specify DirectX 11. Having a newer Windows version or a recent driver does not by itself establish that the installed GPU meets the required feature level. Confirm that the graphics hardware and driver expose DirectX 11 support.

Keen lists 35 GB of free HDD space for both tiers. Check available space on the drive where the game will be installed, not merely the total capacity of another disk. Leave additional room for the operating system, updates, saves, and other software; the stated 35 GB is the published installation baseline.
Why do Steam and Keen list slightly different minimums?
Readers may see a second set of figures on the Steam listing. Steam describes the minimum processor as an Intel i5 at 3.0 GHz or higher and the graphics requirement as a GeForce 750 or Radeon R9 270X or higher. It also lists 8 GB of RAM, DirectX 11, and 35 GB of storage.
For a current comparison, use Keen Software House’s official requirements page as the primary reference because it specifies the i5-7600K-class 3.80 GHz CPU and GeForce 750 Ti example. The Steam wording explains why a store page can appear less specific or slightly different; it should not be treated as a guarantee that any 3.0 GHz i5 or any GeForce 750 variant will perform the same way.
What performance can you expect?
The requirements establish eligibility tiers, not a frame-rate contract. Keen and the cited store information do not publish FPS results by resolution, graphics preset, world size, simulation load, or mod count. Therefore, it is not accurate to promise a particular number of frames per second simply because a computer meets minimum or recommended hardware.

Actual behavior can vary with the size and complexity of a world, the number of active simulations, visual settings, background processes, thermal limits, and driver condition. The recommended tier is the more conservative target when you want extra capacity, especially if you expect heavier worlds or multiplayer sessions, but it remains a guideline rather than a measured guarantee.
Installation, accounts, and internet access
Keen says installation requires a Steam or Xbox account and an internet connection. Plan to be online for the initial download and setup even if you intend to play alone afterward.
Single-player use
After installation, the publisher states that no internet connection is needed for single-player play. This applies to playing locally after the required account-based installation has completed.
Multiplayer use
For multiplayer, Keen recommends an internet connection of 5 Mbit/s or more. That is a published recommendation, not a latency guarantee. Connection quality, upload capacity, Wi-Fi conditions, and the host or server can still affect the session.

- Record the operating system: Open Windows Settings, choose System, then About, and confirm that the edition shows a 64-bit operating system.
- Record the CPU model: In the same About page or in Task Manager’s Performance tab, note the full processor name and its reported speed. Compare the model with the i5-7600K minimum or quad-core i7 recommended class.
- Record installed RAM: In Settings > System > About or Task Manager, check total installed memory. Eight gigabytes reaches the minimum; 16 GB reaches the recommended memory tier.
- Record the GPU: Open Task Manager’s Performance > GPU view or run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool and note the exact graphics-card model. Compare it with the named GeForce and Radeon examples, not just the amount of video memory.
- Check DirectX: In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, review the DirectX version and display feature information. The published requirement is DirectX 11 support.
- Check free space: In File Explorer, right-click the destination drive and choose Properties. Confirm at least 35 GB is free before starting installation, with extra room reserved for normal system use.
- Check your connection plan: Make sure you can connect for installation. If you will use multiplayer, compare your connection with Keen’s 5 Mbit/s recommendation.
This process tells you whether your specifications match the written requirements. It cannot predict a precise FPS result because the publisher does not supply the testing conditions needed for one.

What should you upgrade if your PC is below minimum?
Upgrade the component that fails first rather than replacing parts at random. Compatibility with your motherboard, power supply, case, cooling, and operating system still has to be checked before buying anything.
When the GPU is the shortfall
If the graphics card is below the GeForce 750 Ti or Radeon R9 270X class, graphics capability is the clearest deficiency. Compare a compatible graphics-card upgrade against the power supply and available case space. A newer card can improve headroom, but the published requirements do not support promising a specific frame rate after any generic GPU purchase.
When the CPU is the shortfall
If the processor is below the i5-7600K-class minimum, verify the socket, chipset, BIOS support, and cooling before considering a replacement. On an older platform, a CPU upgrade may require a new motherboard and memory, so calculate the complete platform cost rather than comparing processor prices alone.
When RAM is the shortfall
A system with less than 8 GB does not meet the minimum. Adding compatible memory is often simpler than a platform replacement, but confirm the correct memory type, slot availability, and supported capacity. If you want the recommended tier, target 16 GB total rather than adding an arbitrary single module.
When storage is the shortfall
If less than 35 GB is free, clear space or install to a larger drive. Storage capacity is the immediate issue; the requirements page specifically states HDD space and does not provide a separate SSD performance requirement.

When several components are below the floor
Prioritize the most fundamental blockers: first establish a supported 64-bit Windows installation and DirectX 11-capable graphics, then address any sub-8 GB memory, below-floor GPU, or below-floor CPU. If multiple major parts are far below the minimum, price a balanced system or platform upgrade instead of improving one component while leaving another decisive bottleneck unchanged.

Use the minimum column as a compatibility gate and the recommended column as the safer purchasing target. Do not treat either column as an independent benchmark.
Release information and requirement context
The Steam listing shows a release date of 28 February 2019. Store-page wording can remain visible alongside an updated publisher specification, which is why checking the date and source matters when two requirement lists do not use identical examples.
Quick decision checklist
- Is the operating system Windows 10 64-bit?
- Does the CPU meet the i5-7600K at 3.80 GHz minimum class, or the quad-core i7 at 4.5 GHz recommended class?
- Is there at least 8 GB RAM, or 16 GB for the recommended tier?
- Does the GPU meet the GeForce 750 Ti/Radeon R9 270X minimum class, or the GeForce 1070/RX Vega 56 recommended class?
- Does the system support DirectX 11?
- Is at least 35 GB free on the installation drive?
- Can you connect to install through a Steam or Xbox account?

If every minimum answer is yes, your PC matches Keen Software House’s published floor. If any answer is no, fix that requirement before relying on the game installing or running as expected.
